They can.

However, the way this whole mess started was because of how the Nets responded to Kyrie opting in.

The Nets do not want Kyrie there. They can’t stand him.

KD doesn’t want to play in Brooklyn without Kyrie.

So not as simple as to say they can just keep bother guys.

Keep them, trade durant at the deadline, cut Kyrie after the playoff eligibility deadline.

They could super petty about this.

I don't think it will matter that much.

They only got Kyrie because Kyrie grew up a nets fan.

But he and GM Durant sunk the franchise and now want out for the mess they created.

The Nets catered to basically every whim for those 2, minus the play part time thing. And Durant was the one who drove Harden out of town.

Splitting hairs over Harris or Curry

Who is splitting hairs?

Both Shams and Woj have said that no aggressive offers have been made. All we have heard is that the Lakers would rather have Curry over Harris. We haven't heard if the Nets have stuck to wanting to include Harris or if they have maybe asked the Lakers to include additional compensation.

It's also been reported that the Nets priority is KD and that only the Lakers have expressed any interest in Kyrie.

Assuming that the Harris/Curry thing is real and that no one else seems to be interested in getting Kyrie, the Lakers have no reason to adjust their offer until they get a definitive answer/counter offer from the Nets.

I do agree that if they want to make this happen, they can't overplay their hand. But from what Shams and Woj are saying, the teams haven't even really started to negotiate yet.

Like I said though. Curry offers financial flexibility but if you want to keep him he's probably getting 10 million plus as well.

Floating that out there doesn't make them look like anything but dumbasses.

The Nets are under no obligation to move either Irving or KD. Both are under contract and if the Nets want they can simply tell both players to stay home, we ain't trading you. That is what the Nets have already stated. They have recently tweeted-out that unless they get what they want in both potential trades, they ain't trading anybody!

It would be incredible if the Nets tell both KD & Kyrie F-U we're not trading you. The temper tantrums could be epic. Highly unlikely that happens though.

You think the Lakers are going to give up a couple of 1sts to get Kyrie?

I think this is where the negotiations are at, trying to get a first or two out of the Lakers (if they haven't offered them yet).

That is incredibly foolish.

I get that they want flexibility next summer and Harris is signed for 2 years.

But you can deal him as an expiring next summer.

And if he establishes health and plays well, he might even net the Lakers an asset in that type of trade.

It really is. If they trade for Kyrie, the assumption is that they would want him for more than 1 year, which more than uses up any available cap space next year anyway.

How was KD the one who drove him out? He was hurt while Irving didn't play because he wasn't vaxxed.

He told harden he was fat and questioned his dedication to winning

Not sure what Cavs' offer is/was but no doubt Simons (and Brunson) offers has to be something Sexton's camp is looking at.

Way les than that.

They were in the correct ballpark

Should 100% trade him for that price

For $25M/yr I agree but it also depends on who will trade for him and what can the get. Cavs have leverage at this point

That actually makes sense.

KD will really want to be traded once Kyrie is actually traded.

But will the Nets find acceptable deals for either?

Doubtful, IMO.
Yeah and they have always been a package deal. If one goes, they both go. Not one offer will be fair unless they include 3-4 teams where they get more players/picks, seems very doubtful

Well when the news originally broke....people were saying it was going to be the biggest trade in history.
