The Broncos are restructuring Courtland Sutton's contract creating nearly $8 million in cap space. They have converted $10.5 million of his base salary into a signing bonus and prorated it over the remainder of the deal.

This was first reported by Field Yates of ESPN

He's injury prone and that's usually what you want to avoid. Signing him is setting yourself up for a problem because it is every unlikely to stay healthy, then what do you do? It's the kind of desperation move that you need to avoid making.
Anything long term is a big no but a 2yr deal to see if he can stay healthy works.

That's what you call gambling against the house. If he gets injured ( and I would bet he does) and misses 6-8 weeks of the season the team is screwed, if he only misses 2-4 weeks but isn't fully healthy in another 2-4 games the Seahawks are screwed. Injuries happen in the NFL but don't up the odds of injuries by signing injury prone players, that's just asking for injuries and you deserve what you get.

It's not gambling in a sense Seattle has many many holes to fill. A 2yr deal allows the FO to add a player at a different position of need. Chances are you're correct he'll be hurt so going into the 2023 draft now you can add his replacement along with one of the top QB prospects.

True, but Curhan and Forsythe are still on the roster in the event that happens. I don't think Brown is being viewed as a LONG term solution unless he finds the holy grail. I am really hoping we draft Cross and put him at left tackle. IF Brown is signed to a shorter term deal and stays healthy, Seattle would have a very good OL at that point.

If Curhan and Forsythe could be the starting left tackle for half a season, then there's really no need to sign a free agent to fill the role, short or long term. I don't mind getting a place sitter til we fill the role permanently, but what's the point of paying a place sitter $10 million just to have the $800,000 back up playing half the snaps?

Unless it's a friendly to Seattle deal, I don't want him, and his estimated $10 million market value is way too much for a guy who grades in the mid-60's on PFF for most of his career. If we want an injury prone veteran, we might as well bring back Shell.

LT is such an important position that if your able to address it long term you should do so. This is a good draft if your looking for a LT and Seahawks have the draft position they need to grab a premium one. Best not to mess that up by opting for patch at LT instead of taking the long term answer while you have the chance.

Agreed. I'm really hoping we take a tackle with the 9th. If Cross and Neal are both gone, then maybe move back a bit and take the kid from Tulsa.

Franchise left tackles are SO fuckin' hard to find. I'd say outside of QB it's the most difficult. You can generally find some free agent pass rushers/DL... but finding a good YOUNG stud at left tackle in the free agent market is nearly impossible. Even the Chiefs, in a tight cap situation, are finding a way to keep Brown Jr.

Edmonds signed a 12.6 mil two year deal with 6.1 guarantee, Conners signed 21 mil deal for 3 years. A one year deal for 5.7 is actually a team friendly deal.

It is more $$ than he (Penny) deserves, but it works as a 1 year deal. It doesn't really matter if you overpay him in a single year as long as you have enough cap space.

Well if he doesn't produce this season like he did towards the end of last season then yes we did in fact overpay for him. I'm hoping he does have a good season. Injury bug as well as consistency issues have really spurned him since he was drafted.

Yeah, not a sexy pic but you gotta have that LT position locked down … If I’m not mistaken Pete took at LT his first year as coach, Okung at number 4 then Earl at 14 I believe … Okung did good enough, held it down …
