Umm…

Point being, the people here who have officiated before are all saying it is way harder than it looks.

Not a coincidence that the people sounding off on officials haven’t done it.
Ummmmm

I played High School Basketball, Millitary Basketball in several tournaments overseas.

Doesnt make me a expert on the WNBA.

Seriously, get over yourself.

It should be pretty obvious that nobody takes your rec league experience to mean you are the foremost authority of referees.

I respect you for it and assume it means you know the rules better than I.

But, running around with a whistle in your mouth at the local gym doesn’t give you permission to dismiss others point of views simply because we have not done it.

Look back on your posts objectively so you can realize you have become a victim of your own hubris.

All sports should be paying close attention to what the nfl is doing with the expedited review. Technology is a wonderful thing.

Totally agree.

I think there is a way to do something similar in basketball, but it is harder because of the way the game flows.

Always at least some time between plays in the NFL. And stopping the action to get a call right just isn’t always possible in basketball.

If the league doesn’t fix this now they are just saying they don’t care.
They care first and foremost about money and this supposed problem isn't hitting them in the wallet. If anything the bitching about calls and Twitter rage fests might help engagement.

Yeah, this doesn't really work. tlance isn't saying anything about the players or claiming he could do better than an NBA player.

But there are folks here who have never been referees that seem to think they could do better.
He asked if I have been a NBA ref.

How is what I asked him different?

I have played basketball, Lebron has played basketball.

He knows it’s a foul just like I know it was a foul.

What exactly is the difference in my stance and @tlance?

Oh, I know….

Im not dismissing him or telling him his vote doesn’t count simply because he hasn’t done it.

Who is "some of you"? Has anyone argued not to change the challenge system?
No.

None of us no the answer.

We are just venting.

Isnt that what folks do on a sports board?

Most of you here have no experience with Law Enforcement.

Some have 2nd hand experience.

But, do you need to have been a cop to know you shouldn’t hit a cuffed suspect in the head multiple times and kick him to death?

Gosh, I hope not.

Not trying to be condescending.

I asked you whether you had reffed because you made the comment about the play being 5 feet away.

If you had reffed before you would know it is much more complicated than that.

I can promise you that the ONLY way to really appreciate the intricacies of the job is to do it.

Players and coaches view the game through entirely different lenses.

I don’t think I am better than anyone because I have had some experience reffing. I am sure there are some on my side of this who haven’t reffed before.

But I do know with 100% certainly that everyone sounding off about officials would change their tone if they knew what it was like to actually do it.

You are implying those calls are easy to make, and I can assure you there is no such thing as an easy call in the closing seconds of a basketball game.

What?

I asked if you have any experience officiating at any level.

Of course I wasn’t asking if you have reffed in the NBA.

That would be really silly question.

Hey vent away, I got no problem with that...just my take which is, you're venting over something that can't be ever made perfect.

I think we all agree a better challenge system would help.

I would like to have a members only thread where we can complain about the refs in piece without tlance defending them
No, I’m going to complain right here….lol

I don’t care that he’s an apologist.

He shouldn’t care or lecture grown ass people for voicing their opinions.

But, it’s a sports board.

We don’t need to agree, it’s more fun when we don’t.

I purposely tagged him and @trojanfan12 last night to start this dialog.

So, put this on me…

Message to the NBA, get the last 2 minutes right. We don’t care if it means we have time to eat another piece of pizza to get it right.

Apologies.

You didnt say NBA specifically.

My point still stands.

Your rec League officiating doesn’t put your opinion on the matter any higher than my rec league playing experience.

The fact that you threw that shit out there like some kinda coup de grace is kinda insulting….and laughable.

The difference is that being a player is far different than being a referee.

I used bitch about the refs a lot. Especially when I played. As a player you only know if you were fouled because you can feel it. But generally speaking, you have no idea what else was going on that may have caused the ref to miss the call.

What changed that was when I got to coach high school basketball.

Being right on the sidelines, that close to the game, gave me a whole new perspective on just how difficult being a referee is.

And that was just high school basketball. I can only imagine what it would be like to try to ref an NBA game which is a far faster game with much bigger and more athletic players.

One thing I learned from coaching? I never want to be a ref. lol

Does not give you or him standing to declare my opinion does not count because I haven’t done it.

Have you ever been a politician?

You can clearly see that shit is broken and needs a overhaul, no?

That’s my only point.
