Luka is incredible, but his usage rate is top 3 as essentially a PG or point forward (behind Embiid and Giannis). Can he be built around to a championship level, or is he ultimately more like Russ? Can the Mavs win if you take the ball out of his hands more?

The Mavs are in the luxury tax already with this current roster. Sure, the money could be better spent, but Luka's salary will only be climbing year to year towards that $48M number. Their expirings are Wood ($14.3Min line for a raise) and Powell (11M) and Dinwiddie/Bullock are non-guaranteed. Green will get expensive AFTER next season. They can build with draft picks maybe (after 2023, top 10 protected or to the Knicks), but their tradeable assets aren't exactly desirable (Hardaway, Bertans, Finney-Smith).

All those non guaranteed deals is how you can land a Collins and you try to build around those guys

Luka is special good. So your bar for supporting cast is a little lower

They should absolutely sell this year unless it’s a Collins move

They might even be able to be bad enough to save their pick like Portland last year
