Ok, fair enough.

And you had to go back to the 80s to do it.

Also, Magic at 6’9 is a bit different IMO. More like LeBron than Lillard.

You're the one that said "in the last 40 years". I'm just going by the timeline you set. You specifically asked about teams led by PG's that won a title.

"Magic at 6'9 is a bit different in IMO"

Not to me. He was a PG correct?

Mostly agree with this, but while AI never won one, maybe he could have if he had better #2 and #3 teammates than Mutombo, McKie, Hill and/or Ratliff?

Eh.

I think that was as much on him and his style of play. He was a brilliant player, but an individual player.

I remember all the hype when he partnered with Melo in Denver. That was a pairing that was never going to lead to titles.

Yes, I did.

And I should have been more clear.

LeBron is basically a point guard too.

I should have just said small lead guards.

Magic was the type of versatile do everything player that would thrive in today’s positionless game. Put him anywhere from 1-4.

Something about Melo that makes me laugh. When he was in Denver he said he couldn't wait to get outta that cow town. If Denver's a cow town what's Oklahoma City?

It is funny, because I was going to say 30 years then I went to 40 without really thinking about it. 80s were like the only decade dominated by PG led teams.

Should have stuck with my original thought.

There were some good PG's back in the 80's. Magic, Isiah, Dennis Johnson, Mo Cheeks, Fat Lever, Mark Price, Sidney Moncrief. Might be a few more. Those were just the ones off the top of my head without looking stuff up.

True but it would be different if he were in his early 30's....but they do have Kanter so they may be better off with him.

Eh

A healthy Nurkic is definitely better

Ok...so he's not a fit with Melo, McKie, Mutombo, Ratliff and Hill to win a title.

what about 2015-18 Klay instead of McKey that year? If you want guys from that year, Stackhouse or Ray Allen? Webber or Brand?

I mean, I agree with your premise despite a couple outliers.

Sure, that would have been better.

AI was spectacular to watch. He was a great volume scorer, but not an efficient one. He was highly ball dominant and a career 42.5% shooter. Not a great defender either.

Players like that don’t tend to win many titles as your best player.

Yes but would you rather have AI or Kyrie?????

Funny you should ask. Kyrie has to be the closest to comp to AI today.

I am actually taking Kyrie here. He is way more efficient. I don’t think you are winning with either as your best player, and I am taking the more efficient guy as my #2.

AI was a killer, but in that sometimes harmful Russell Westbrook way.
