Think you are taking this a bit too far. are you suggesting teams wouldn't want to have really good players who just aren't elite? Hell, Kyrie was considered such a player after his year 3 season. Many of the same things being said about Sexton were said about him. I doubt the Cavs at that time regretted the notion they were eventually going to have t pay him max or near max to keep him.

No.

I am saying that rebuilding teams aren’t going trade away a ton of assets to acquire a player that they will have to overpay the following season.

The Cavs are open to trading him because they aren’t sure about paying him either.

At this point the dude is hurting his legacy. He has to be broke or something.

One of his kids died a couple months back. There's also the never ending drama around his ex-wife Larsa (I think they finally divorced?). It's clearly taking a toll on him. He was obviously drunk in that Dan Patrick interview. I'm surprised DP didn't end it earlier but DP still handled it as best he could since he's a pro.

Yeah, and while Kyrie has his issues, when he's just playing basketball, he's an amazing player. As long as he is able to play at the level he does, there will be teams willing to take a chance that they can "get through to him".

When trading away a superstar, teams are often in the position of "trading a dollar for 4 quarters". At least with Kyrie, the Blazers might be able to say they got a 50 cent piece and 2 quarters. lol

Yeah, but that 50 cent piece could very well be counterfeit.

Channing Frye is being interviewed by DP right now. DP asked him how you knew if Lebron was unhappy with you on the court. Frye said "He'd give you the look". DP asks what would get you "the look".

Frye says "Lack of confidence. If Lebron passed you the ball and you didn't shoot because you missed your last 2...he'd look at you like you're crazy and then go by and say You don't think I know what I'm doing? shoot the ball".

The Cavs are open to trading him because he is not elite nor untouchable. He's just really good and could still get better since only 22. Most teams would be open to trading nearly all their players for the right price.

Lebron and Dame were seen at a WNBA game together. So now the Dame to the Lakers for AD talk is apparently starting.

They're in Space Jam. They're going to WNBA games together. CLEARLY this means Dame will be a Laker this Fall.

lol

I'm waiting for someone with a theory on how the Lakers can keep AD and add Dame.

To be fair, Cowherd talked about why an AD/Dame trade might make sense and made some solid points. Then he followed up with...it's not happening.

Most reasonable and only way it can happen is the Lakers re-sign Schroder and basically everyone else. Dame forces his way out but says he ONLY wants the Lakers, eliminated basically every team that can put together a better offer (which is basically everyone since damn near every team has more to offer). Then when the re-signed players become eligible to be traded in December, they're packaged for Dame.

To start, this is just making the money work:

Dame $39M

KCP $13M
Kuzma $13M
Harrell $9.7

That's within the requirements for matching salary, or the Lakers could S&T Schroder in place of any of the 3 (most likely in place of Harrell, who can opt out).

Unless Dame takes the "I won't play for anyone else" route that AD took, why would the Blazers agree to that? Heck, I'm not sure they could get McCollum for that.

Also, I doubt the Blazers would be thrilled about trading to another Western Conference team, let alone 1 from the same division.

Having said that, I wouldn't mind the Lakers going after McCollum if the Blazers decide to keep Dame and move CJ. Just not sure if the Lakers can put together a package that someone else couldn't beat.
