Of course...but he wasn't. aAe you suggesting Philly only took him because they wanted an injured player who couldn't play, not because, ya know, they thought he'd be pretty good?

No, not at all.

Had they landed a healthy Embiid, they would have started trying to win at least a year or 2 earlier.

Burn it took 2 years to figure out what they actually had there, so they decided to keep punting.

a top 10 pick in a strong draft for a team who just went to the finals

let’s not pretend they had nothing to start with.

that’s a good start.

better than Philly

they just sold their pieces.

you guys still haven’t sold nance for example
"strong draft"? who thought that was a strong draft beyond the top 4-5?

why would we sell nance just to sell him when he has arguably one of the better nonrookie deals in the league (other than vet minimum deals to ring chasers)?

They didn't "just sell their pieces"? They got good deals for them. If you are aware of a nice offer for sexton they turned down I'd like to know.

they saw a chance to get a top level 1-1 guy at 3 because of risky medicals.

it was a big gamble, but the upside was enormous, and worth it
Of course it was. Who said otherwise? Helped even further that he couldn't play. But they didn't start off The Process with the plan to draft an extremely talented center who could miss a season or 2.

You're starting to get it.

Nobody said they did.

What they did was continued the tank until they had a legit franchise superstar (they thought they had 2) to build around.

The Cavs may very well have landed their superstar. But they got him 4th and that is a bit fortunate that they didn’t win too many games to hit the 3rd pick.

Made easier by the fact they drafted a superstar who couldn't play.

Breaking news: Leonard signing a 4 year max deal with the Clippers, the final year is a player option.

No doubt it helped a ton to move things along. Blessing in disguise (or maybe not in disguise).

lol

So apparently, when Kobe worked out for the Clippers in 1996, they told him it was the best workout they had ever seen.

So Kobe says, "alright, you're going to draft me?" They said "No".

So Kobe asks them why not?

The Clippers response "Well, we want to turn things around with our organization. And we felt like if we drafted a 17 year old kid, then the city of Los Angeles wouldn't take it seriously. So we can't draft you."

Forgot to add...they drafted Lorenzen Wright.

And to be fair, Kobe was drafted 13th, so it's not like the Clips were the only team to pass on him.

Just that their thought process for not doing it and what Kobe then became with the Lakers is so Clippers-esque.
