I still rather be in the Heat position post Lebron compared to Cleveland and not that close. One franchise is able to acquire top players via free agency/s&t while the other is basically hoping they can eventually hit on a lottery pick and find their next superstar. And as we see with the Kings & Magic, that is a very hard thing to do
Well if course but CLE can’t attract stars, the gameplan has to be totally different and when you have to hit on draft picks…even with top 10 ones it puts more pressure on the FO. I would obviously rather be in the Heat position but I feel they will need a championship with Butler and Bam for this to be a success imo

None. He was probably 3rd or 4th on that list. Portis and Batum were ahead of him. Heat really wanted those guys. I would have love Batum on this team

Both chose to stay with their teams
That’s right, I think they made an offer to Portis

Well Bam is the only AS/star potential player. Robinson is a role player and so is Herro at this point after that dropoff last season. A lot of the future could depend on Herro. And when I mean future I mean down the road

Herro played 2 seasons so next season can be interesting to see which way he goes. Hopefully this year is his best of the 3

I don’t disagree with that either.

but they are absolutely dependent on Herro and bam taking the next steps at that point

Heat have 2 years in this window until Lowry gets ancient and Butler gets old and way overpaid. Butler has a lot of miles on him too.

ill be interested to see if Bam's Olympic experience can help him take the next step. Herro is going to be key for them.

the Bucks and Nets are awfully good.

The Bucks have 3 wings in Holiday, Middleton and Giannis that are just monsters that are clutch and play defense and they have put some shooters around thsoe guys too.

if the Sixers get Dame somehow, the Heat are clearly, at best, 4th best in the East- a pretty big tier below the other 3 teams.
I kind of like Indiana if they can somehow get Warren and Lavert healthy, too.

More trust in Bam by far. He is a consistent 15 foot jump shot away from becoming a 22/10/5 guy. Showed signs of it last year but then confidence disappeared late in the season.

Sure, but Heat are now in year 8 post Lebron and in a destination city for FAs (Cavs in year 4). You think Heat FO would magically be able to attract players to Cleveland and other FOs would struggle luring them to South Beach?

They have the depth.

they lack that alpha star.

and the guys they drafted project as role players.

they needed to swing bigger imo.

it’s a fair point. Location matters.

NBA would be fantastic fun if teams had to relocate/swap cities once in a while.

Tyler Herro played well in the bubble, not impossible he rebounds from this past season. Let's not act like he's some project.
sure...but also not impossible he doesn't. Pretty sure some here thought at time of bubble was nuts to think garland might still end up the better player than Herro. And, sure, still time for Herro to pass him again.

Might not be elite of elite, but Sabonis has to be close to the next level below.

Far more in NBA than MLB and NFL. If you will pay guys and/or win the stars will go almost anywhere in those sports. Hell, coming off beyond awful seasons the Browns were able to bring in guys who were arguably the best at their positions in FA (for sure at O-line)

They were 1 game from the ECF in year 2 post Lebron.

And as for your question, the answer is no but this is where scouting/draft selection come into play. Look what Miami been doing even with their draft picks. Selected Bam middle 1st round and he is an All Star and one of the best defensive players in basketball. Found Robinson as an undrafted free agent and he is one of the best shooters in the game. For a team that is often in the top 10, Cleveland miss too frequently on their picks. When you draft guys top 10 then i need you to need to be more than a role player. Sexton is the only one so far that looks that way. Hopefully Cleveland can keep him around

What picks has THIS regime missed on? Sure, the latter regime(s) missed on a couple but they still won a title and played for 3 others.

Not sure I agree, but many seem to rank Garland higher than Sexton. He's definitely "more than a role player". Okoro? Possible ceiling is really good role player, but kind of early on him, isn't it? Mobley a role player already, too?

If they don't keep Sexton around will be because they chose not to. He'll only be a RFA. Kind of hoping they keep him but if they move him for a better wing then so be it. Not sure I get the idea some say no way we can pay him max but would pay him, say, $20-22 mil. They'll be above the max either way so unless one cares about Dan's finances what's the diff. Not like they could let him walk and bring in someone close to his talent.

At this point....Sexton and Garland are nothing more than good players on bad teams.

Lets not be stupid. Why would i be talking about Mobley? His career didn't start yet so we dont know what he will be.

Garland is good but do you see him being a star? If i draft you top 5 then I'm expecting you to be a star. Okoro was drafted where? Top 10 i believe and looking like a role player. Also what about that shooter they drafted late 1st round a few years ago. Is he even in the rotation? Late 1st round picks don't have to be stars but should be rotation players imo

cool. You realize that does not mean they could not also be good players on good teams? Plenty of players fall into this category, sport. Do you prefer bad players on good teams?
