Dodgers are the real evil empire. They have a farm like the Rays and they spend like the Yankees. I was never this guy 5-10 years ago but I think it’s time for MLB to invoke a cap and a ceiling. The only way to do it though would be revenue sharing with local tv money. Not sure how they would get the big franchises to be ok with that though.
Can't have a cap without a more robust floor IMO. Feeding these cheapskate teams with luxury tax money that goes into the owners' pockets instead of into the on the field product is a joke.

Guaranteed contracts and teams looking to get out from under them almost requires no cap.

Dodgers scouting and farm system enables the big trades. Capping the team will just make them keep all that young talent and slow the impact slightly. For all that money spent, they have one championship, so is all that money spent really holding other teams back? I don't think so.

It is fact.

Motor only takes you so far if you don’t have the explosiveness to beat defenders.

He's only under contract for this year and next. We're not talking about a 4 or 5 year deal here (or paying him until he's 40).

Plus, he rests a lot on the defensive end (lol).

I’m not the biggest Westbrook fan, but I do respect him for the athlete that he is. I would compare him to Adrian Peterson in the NFL in terms of being a generational freak athlete. Peterson has gone way beyond the age norm for a running back. Going to be very interesting to see if Westbrook will continue adapting. I think they are going to run him into the ground, which is right up his alley.

Perhaps.

But even then, AP wasn’t as great at 32 as he was at 24.

Russ might last longer than most, like LeBron has.

But, LeBron isn’t nearly as explosive as he was. And when Russ loses the same amount of explosiveness as LeBron has, he will almost surely lose effectiveness too.

Whether that is now or 4 years from now remains to be seen.

But it will happen at some point.

I am not knocking the Lakers decision in any way. I think it is a gamble worth making.

Just noting that when Russ does decline, it might happen pretty fast.

Like Dwayne Wade.

He's also arguably the most athletic of that group and carrying the least bulk (other than CP3, who's considerably older).

First time I've ever heard someone say that Kevin Durant is bulky. LOL.

I'm not arguing that he's going to decline. I simply disagreed with your claim that he hasn't put that many miles on the odometer. He has.

Sooner or later he will break down and when he does it will be very fast but it may not be for another 3 or 4 years.

Like Dwayne Wade.

Guards tend to fall off a cliff at the end.

Reggie Jackson is still available? He may be forced to going back to the Clippers.

We should just bring back Cousins and use him as the backup PF, maybe a little at C when we want to stretch the floor. He played well for the Clippers.

Isn't Millsap still out there (although I doubt he'll do the vet min)?
He should at 36 but I don't see him wanting to be part of this flashy Super Squad. He's a pretty low key guy.

Are they trading sexton?
Guessing it's like most players mentioned in deals....if they get an offer that makes them better but I don't think they feel it's a must to move him. Maybe different story had they taken Green or Suggs.

I’m not a fan of either guard.

im curius what they turned down for Sexton.
If he was really on the market likely a number of deals turned down.

Curious why you don't like Garland.

If they do anything it won’t be till the deadline or next offseason. No point in trading him in year 3 of his contract
Agree....unless offered a can't refuse deal this offseason. Idea he MIGHT want a max isn't reason to feel they must deal him.
