From afar, it seems to me that the names linked to OKC are assets that they believe they may be increasing in value over time. While they have the cap, lock in a total for an asset now. Use that total to your advantage in a league where trades have to bring the same salary back. This would potentially allow for a team that can’t really land top level FA talent to draft that player instead and use these existing salary holds so to speak to bring back value and fit with the core group they hope to build in the next 2-3 drafts.
