That's why your main ball handler and distributor is typically a perimeter player with at least a midrange jumper, if not 3 range. Passing forwards are a real bonus (like Dray), but having a non-shooter playing on the perimeter really hurts the team as a whole Simmons has been playing out of position since day 1 IMO, should be a point forward like Dray and stay inside the arc.
I don’t know. That position you’re describing still needs a willingness to shoot which Simmons doesn’t have. I don’t think the position is the issue. You can’t really get away with his unwillingness to shoot at any position.

That will be fun.

Lavar is 1 step away from realizing his dream.

Sign Liangelo and it will be multiple championships for Charlotte!
and maybe he could go 1-on-1 with MJ?

IMO, having Simmons as the ball handler vs being a roll guy is a huge difference. That's the problem that him and Embiid have because both need to occupy the same space to be at their best. So trading Simmons to a team that can use him in that capacity would greatly benefit Simmons. Have him put on 15lbs of muscle and let him be a center in today's NBA.

In today’s game, any non-shooter hurts spacing no matter what position they play.

I would make the case that it is a lot easier to work a primary ballhandler non-shooter than it is a wing. That is the worst.

Simmons should be a secondary Ball Handler and a roll man in a P&R with a lead guard who commands attention at the top of the key. He could be deadly going to the bucket down hill. He'd be like Draymond on steroids with a better ability to score.

That is why I don’t think now is the time to deal him.

Unless they work out something like the 3 team deal @msgkings322 suggested.
Does that deal still work now that the 7 & 14 picks are done (Kuminga and Moody)?

I think this past season showed that the Heat were kind of in that weird spot where they were good enough to make some noise in the playoffs, but not quite good enough to get to the finals. Stuck between contender status and that 7-10 seed that we typically consider NBA purgatory.

So, they had choose between starting a rebuild or going all in to try to get another title.

Looks like they made their choice.

They have a reasonable chance against the Bucks and Sixers, those are flawed teams. A healthy Nets is a different animal and I don't see the Heat getting past them. But, the same thing can be said about pretty much every other team in the league if the Nets stay healthy.
I think the Bucks are very formidable as well.

Giannis, Holiday and Middleton is a heckuva big 3. All wing players that can play defense and make plays. All are still pretty young too. Divencenzo is a guy that is coming along for them too who could be an impact player with some development at some point.

Sixers- who knows- once they trade Simmons and we see what they get we will know more. If they get a guy like Lillard or Beal it changes the equation.

While I agree that he needs to at least get a semi-respectable perimeter shot, he can be very effective if he's goes to team builds around him like he was Lebron.

Lebron's always been at his best when surrounded by shooters. Do that for Simmons and his lack of shooting becomes much less of an issue.

Having said that, he also needs to do something about his free throw shooting...can't have him passing up dunks because he's afraid of the free throw line.

Dinwiddie + Kemba + SGA isn’t going to help them get in the bottom 5 either.

There are only a handful of teams with 3 guards as good or better.
except Dinwiddie is coming off major injury, and Kemba cant stay healthy and effective. Maybe they both get healthy and are good- we shall see.

I think its extraordinary likely they are bottom 3 in the West again- which should give them a very good chance of picking in the top 5.

True. We also don't know what else the Heat may do. They're in a few rumors. Gonna be interesting to see what the league looks like in about 24-48 hours when the initial "frenzy" or lack thereof (some folks are starting to say that they think Lillard and Beal will stay put for 1 more year) is over and teams are just filling out the rest of their rosters.

Dream wish list for the Warriors would be Nic Batum for the Tax MLE and Andre Iguodala for the Vet minimum.

This is probably a bit out of reach as the most the Warriors can offer Batum would be 5.9m versus other teams who can offer the Full MLE at closer to 9.5M. Andre's market will likely be the vet minimum but just don't know if he'll want to come back to the bay or go to another market looking for another ring. But Batum would be very productive for us and Andre would be able to mentor the rooks.

Secondary wish list would be:

1) Otto Porter Jr.
2) Austin Rivers

batum is still getting paid by Charlotte. Right?

In theory he should be happy taking the minimum since he can’t double dip and not taking the mle would let his team add another key piece

Yeah but taking a pay cut of nearly 8M on the year (possible full MLE to minimum) is a big ask even for a guy who's still getting paid out by another team. In relation to how much they have it may not seem much, but that's still a LOTTTT of money. That's why I have my reservations about him even being willing to take a tax payer MLE vs a non-tax MLE which is about a 4M difference.

i guess my point is he’s still getting paid that money no matter what.
Same reason Blake took the minimum from Brooklyn. The pistons are paying him big money already
