I hope so.

sounds like the Cavs are seriously considering making a big offer to move to #1.

Would Sexton, a future #1, and #3 be too much to pay? Sounds like hte Pistons really like Suggs.

I dunno.

that’s the move for the cavs imo.

unless they can get a decent deal for sexton.

the problem is they need to get at least one young forward out of the deal

I dunno.

Like any team I'm sure they are doing their due diligence, but I doubt they tell anyone anything other than "we will listen to or explore all offers" when asked about moving up.

Have also heard Pistons prefer Green...conclusion is like any team, they aren't telling anyone who they really like. Depending who their target is they might prefer Garland to Sexton.

would I trade either, along with #3 and possibly a future first to move up? I've seen cunningham play a handful of games and never beginning to end. While he looked good I cannot say he looked "player I must have at all costs" good. I've never seen Green play one live second.

IF I'm the Cavs and agree with the hype (Cade is far better than anyone else) I'd probably do it. If it's much closer between Cade and who I could get at 3 I would stay where I was.

I think if they make this move they might be thinking Cade could be the SF and play a point forward role (unless Garland was moved in the deal).

I think that would be a solid offer.

They better get it right though. Because I think Suggs has a ceiling almost as high as Cade’s.

It is 1 thing to pick Ayton over Luka, quite another to trade up to take Ayton.

I think Greene and Cunningham clearly have the biggest ceilings in the draft.

but there’s no shame in getting Suggs

IF they believe the hype that Cade is far better than whoever goes after him then, sure, you strongly consider that trade. But just because those are the reports of the experts who don't make the picks does not mean the real GMs believe it.

Then again IF the hype is real not sure Detroit would do it. As you said with Cavs having to get it right....even worse to trade out of the pick and blow the chance to get him if he's a superstar (and your pick is not)

Curious if you say this because of anything you have seen or is it what you've heard? I saw Cade play a handful of games and he looked good. Not sure it was "oh my God need to have him at all costs" good. Of course, have never watched any film of the kid nor spoken to him. Never saw even one live minute of Green.

a little of both.
Green just has all the tools. He also did it against grown men, a virtual college all star team

cunningham is close to Ben Simmons with a jumper. But not quite that good. But that’s the theory.

he is a little looser and not quite the playmaker Simmons was. But he can actually shoot lol

Yeah.

Just reminds me an awful lot of the situation a few years ago when Fultz was the consensus 1 pick and Philly traded up while Boston took Tatum at 3.

I believe both Cade and Suggs are going to be a lot better than Fultz. I am not comparing the players.

But man it hurts extra bad when you trade up and the guy drafted in your original spot ends up being the best player in the draft class.

it is amazing how bad luck Philly has had

they trade a historically low amount to move up to Number one and miss. And even with the sacto pick not being good it was still a big loss

then they make a trade with Phoenix moving bridges to get that Miami pick, whcih was one of the most coveted assets in the NBA due to what we know now is a faulty assumption/expectation that hs players would be eligible for the draft (and they still ended up with an absurdly loaded class) and then end up trading it for Harris….the pick is not good anyway.

just wild how things play out

Yep.

Philly should have at least 2 more young really good players.

then you trade the guy you picked at one and he becomes a solid player after you get rid of him.

what do you think is worse (I'm really not sure)......trading up and missing and guy picked in your spot a star. Or having the superstar there for the taking, trading down and taking a clear miss or at least far lesser player? Leaning to fist option being worse as you also likely gave up players or another pick in that situation. 2nd option you likely received more players/picks.

Tough.

I think both scenarios would be equally tough to live with as a fan.

When you have a high pick like that, you just have to get it right and get a bit lucky. They just don’t come around all that often.

I'd say that in reality, the first option is worse for the reasons you stated...but the 2nd option "feels" worse because you traded out of position to get that star player.

If Green is not there when the Cavs pick - i would not mind if they traded back- but no farther than 6.

These are my Cavaliers options ranked in order of what I would like them to do:

1. Stay put and draft Green- this is probably my ideal scenario.

2. Trade up and take Cunningham- probably will cost next year's first rounder- maybe more.

3. Stay put and draft Suggs- I would be very happy with this as well. Suggs reminds me a little bit of CP3- tough, good leader, good defense, great athlete, scorer with the ability to really become a great scorer.

4. Trade back to 5 or 6 and take Barnes or Kuminga. Could you trade back with Orlando to 5 and get Orlando's #10 pick? I would be interested in that if Green is not there. If they can get Barnes and Kuminga and get another top 10 pick- this might just be go up my list. Kuminga and Johnson and out of Duke would give the Cavs 2 very good wing prospects.

5. Draft Mobley

If they could trade up and take Cunningham without trading Sexton- i say then keep Sexton, sign everyone and just go. At that point you have enough talent- a Garland/Sexton back court. Okoro and Cunningham on the wing- a very competent front court with Allen/Nance/Love. At that point you would just need to develop the team- give them time to mesh and the young guys to get experience- and you have the basis of a team that could do something.

It is good to see a team like the Suns in the Finals.

The core of their rebuild was drafting Booker and Ayton. They continued to draft high and took guys like Bridges and Cam Johnson- and then whenit was time they made their trade for CP3. This is the model the Cavs should follow, and intend to follow, if you ask me.

Pretty much the same with the Bucks- drafted Giannis and Middleton- and then traded for Holliday- added pieces around those guys when it was time to compete.

I think the Cavs - after this draft- will be done or close to done in the true "rebuild". Like the Suns- where it took Booker and Ayton time to develop- the Cavs will need 1-3 years to develop their guys (probably 2 years)- but then you can take the next step.

Idea of needing to pay Sexton is way overblown. I mean, if we paid him, say, $20-22 mil or a max of around $28 mil what's the diff (yeah, I know...$6-8 mil)? Assuming we sign Allen and then pay Garland as well we'll be over the cap regardless. Not like if they clear space it's enough for a max guy and even if it was not like one is coming.

Almost inclined to "just go" as you mention if they get cade....but no matter who they get. Unless, of course, a deal for Sexton or Garland can be made that clearly makes us better. we have an owner who will spend whatever he needs to if we can win (and show - right or wrong - he can win without Lebron).

Mostly agree.....but if they hit on 3 (obviously needed for this to work) I think they take the next step next year and make playoffs. Yes, would need another 1-2 years to get where Suns are now.

suns might have even made some mistakes. I like Johnson, but could have stayed at 6 and taken Hachimura. Also might have botched #10 when they could have taken Haliburton.

I dont know if they make the playoffs next year even if they hit on 3.

The guy they are drafting is still going to be what? 19 years old? Sexton is 22, Garland is 21, Okoro is 20.

How long did it take Booker and Ayton- not to mention other lotto picks the Suns drafted like Bridges and Johnson- with some fails like Jackson, Bender. Booker was drafted in 2015. Ayton in 2018.

I would expect them to be better- and competitive for a playoff spot---- but the following year is when I would hope there would be some fairly substantial growth---- even then- no one in the "core" would even be 24 years old and in their prime (or really even that close).
