I'm pleasantly surprised that he is back!
Reports are that Russell Wilson worked hard to convince him to return.

Agents: Seahawks keep Carson on 3-year deal
The Seattle Seahawks are re-signing running back Chris Carson on a three-year, $24.625 million deal that voids after two years, his agents told ESPN.www.espn.com
2021: $2.5M cap hit ($1M base salary + $1.5M pro rated portion of signing bonus)I like carson a lot bu that's too much for a RB

2022: $6.45M* cap hit ($4.5M base salary + $1.5M pro rated portion of signing bonus + $450k in per game roster bonuses)
2023: $1.5M* dead cap hit (final portion of pro rated signing bonus that will be recognized against the cap after the contract voids after the 2022 season).
Seems pretty darn good to me.
So carson really got $10m over 2 years. Where is 3 years $24m coming from?
Well, he can make an additional 6.9 million in per game incentives in year 2. On top of that, NFL contract rules may require a number be attached to the third season even if it's being voided. Never run into this style of contract before honestly, so not sure of the nitty gritty of that voided third season.
We got lucky with this deal to a certain extent. I'm surprised some team didn't look past his injury history and offer him a ton of guaranteed money.2021: $2.5M cap hit ($1M base salary + $1.5M pro rated portion of signing bonus)

I liked Hyde so it’s not a slight on him, but Alex Collins is an upgrade as Carson’s Robin. Whenever Alex had the ball last year he ran with a lot of intensity that will wear out defenses in a way Hyde wasn’t doing last year. I’m stoked Carson is back but equally excited that we now have a two headed battering ram with Collins.Same... Basically the same RB core but Alex Collins is replacing Carlos Hyde for the most part...

Yeah you're right, Penny has been non existent so I spaced his availability. You do know that Carson and Penny will get 99% of the touches right? I like Collins and think he is the "toughest" runner on the team even more so than Carson but he is not on Carson or Penny's level "right now" who know though as he might just explode next year, I believe him capable of doing something like that.
Carlos Dunlap is still out there, and quite a few teams have already filled DE needs. I'm still hoping the team can clear up enough cap to make a run at bringing him back in.
