This was actually the article I had open and hadn't read it yet but read it this morning and changes how I feel about him.I read a bit on him a few leaks back. Me saying he is Tyler O'Neill like was from watching a few videos on him. Seems bulky in the upper body and has a short, compact swing much like O'Neill in my mind anyways.
Here is a good workup on him. I saw you had him listed at 182 lbs (I know baseball reference says that) but he looks bigger than that. This article has him at 216 which seems right based on the videos of him.
Seiya Suzuki: A Deep Dive On The Next Big Thing Out Of Japan — Prospects Live
OF Seiya Suzuki is being rumored to be posted to MLB this offseason. So why is Suzuki worth the hype?www.prospectslive.com
Yeah when I started watching videos on him, I realized there is no way he's only 182lbs and the Tyler O'Neill comp now makes a lot more sense. He's definitely more like 216lbs and built well. Given that he's 34lbs (clearly of good weight) heavier than I thought it definitely changes my calculus on his ability to hit for power in the majors.
I'm way better at scouting football players, but I really like what I see from Suzuki after spending this morning watching videos/reading about him. Ironically when looking at his swing he reminds me of Ohtani to a certain extent. Suzuki holds the bat a bit closer to his body but the thing that stands out to me about both of them is that they both do a really great job at using their entire body to generate power in their swings.
I say go for it depending on how much he commands. That article mentions that he is very selective with the pitches he swings at which I believe means he could translate a bit better than previous Japanese position players.
