20. Ian (JR) Ritchie
Right-Handed Pitcher, Bainbridge HS

In a deep prep pitching class, Ritchie stands out for a loud package of both pure stuff and control/command. The fastball sits 92-95 on most days, up to 97. He has a firm, tight slider up into the mid-80s with late two-plane break that he also commands very well. He also built a deeper, high-70s curveball into his arsenal with distinct vertical movement and significant spin rates. Jordan Lawlar called his breaking ball the best pitch he saw all summer in 2021. Ritchie also features a changeup he’s shown feel for with good arm-side fade that he deploys primarily against lefties. Finally, he's working to mix in a low-90s 2-seam fastball, deployed away from righty bats. Ritchie has an extremely quick arm with elite mechanics and lower half strength. He’s a very good bet to start long-term, and has the potential to be the best prep arm to come out of Washington since Blake Snell or Tim Lincecum.

I haven't had time to really research it, but what are the gripes between the MLBPA and the owners?

I know it all comes down to money, but specifically where? I know players want minor leaguers to be compensated better and likely want to stop player service manipulation, but is that it?
The best way to sum it up is a husband (owners) with a higher paying job and a wife (players) are arguing over making a budget because they have teenagers which means they need money for their cars and college. Neither one wants to budge on changing their lifestyle plus the wife now is arguing over all the cheating the husband has done in the past.

Wondering if Ryan Divish might be reading our posts. I just saw this article that sums it up pretty well.

Yeah it is complicated but as whiney and ungrateful as the MLBPA appear the owners IMO are at fault here. In that article it has a little paragraph that basically says it all. The players “want” competitive balance so the owners response is expand the playoffs. It sucks because baseball is mr favorite sport but the grievances from all pro sports PA’s is being played out in this baseball CBA. IMO it boils down to two main things in a perfect world there should be a salary cap and floor cap but also owners shouldn’t be allowed to own professional teams unless they own the land and stadiums/arenas they play on so the fans don’t suffer with prices.

Competitive balance tax..i have no prob with it...

owners..
  • 2026: $230 million
players..
  • 2026: $263 million
fans....lolol...go 45..a.nd we are ...good...hurrie back to the field now....

owners.
$740,000.
players
They want the minimum to increase to $725,000 in 2022, $745,000 in 2023, $765,000 in 2024 and $765,000 plus the consumer price index in 2025 and a similar raise in 2026.

fans...do this now..
$740,000. They are offering a high minimum salary if the players are willing to accept a 14-team playoff as well.
this later
$765,000 in 2024 and $765,000 plus the consumer price index in 2025 and a similar raise in 2026.

Playoff expansion i dont want...the mariners as an excuse..to up...playoffs..to 14....dont tell me..before it happens who will make the playoffs

fans.....ok..
as i said before.......
phili and cinnci..would not have made much differance....
seattle and toronto...would have...one thing....they do not say....is..do you play the ..2 3 game searies...in one week...cuz ya should...
with one day off..
..cuz soccor moms...will .......complane..if it takes ay longer than it does now...........and i want to know when to put my earphones on..

Pre-arbitration pool...i dont have an opinion...on this

What’s at stake?

In another effort to pay younger players, both sides agreed that pool of money provided equally by 30 teams would be used to reward the top producing non-arbitration eligible players. The differences is the total of money donated into the pool each season.

What the owners want:

MLB wants a pool of $30 million a season ($1 million a team) that remains unchanged in the length of the CBA.

What the players want:

They want an $85 million pool (their original ask was $100 million) with an annual increase of $5 million throughout the CBA.
