That’s what I never quite understood about messing around with the draft order. If you take a projected 5th rounder in the 2nd round just so you can afford to take a projected 2nd rounder in the 5th, why not just take the 2nd rounder in the 2nd round and the 5th rounder in the 5th?Seems both were drafted where they were to make room for over slot money on Harrison and possibly one other guy that they ended up not being able to draft.
Maybe for ego's sake? Hey, we got ourselves a steal in the 5th round? Or there is a money issue and the 2nd round guy is reasonably expected to slide into the 4th or 5th rounds because he wants over slot. The gamble there is that other teams won't want to spend so much over in a round and so he could be available later. However, why then over draft a guy in hopes another guy is available later? Your point seems to make a lot more sense.That’s what I never quite understood about messing around with the draft order. Devils advocate against myself (just trying to talk it through to find the logic)...Maybe for ego's sake? Hey, we got ourselves a steal in the 5th round? They are approx 350k over atm. Aren’t they allowed a cushion, though? Something like 10%? They are only approx 4% over, so they can still pay Dabovich over slot.Here are the amounts spent for each pick, with slot value (listed).
1st - $3.8 million ($4,197,300)
2nd - $1,147,500 ($1,507,600)
2nd (sup) - $1,200,000 ($976,700)
2nd (sup) - $600,000 ($953,100)
3rd - $2.5 million ($710,700)
4th - ? ($507,400)
5th - $25,000 ($379,000)
From what I can tell, the Giants have already overspent in this draft by $40,700 (counting the 4th round slot value). Got to wonder if Dabovich goes unsigned.
Sorry. Didn’t realize you didn’t care. We will stop this discussion immediately.I don't care how much these guys make.
I already know they are overpaid.
I don't see why anyone else would care either. Unless you're out to change the way pro athletes get paid.
How did you come up with that number with the over amount? NDFAs don't count, if you are included those. If you don't count the slot value of the 4th round pick, they would be $548,100 over. That still puts them under the 10% threshold you mention (which I don't remember but that now sounds familiar). They could sign Dabovich up to $882,480 and not be over 10%.They are approx 350k over atm. Aren’t they allowed a cushion, though? Something like 10%? Okay, so we are now on the same page.I did quick math (rounded) in my head. They don’t get the Dabovich pool money unless he signs and NDFA $$ doesn’t count...
paid = $9.2725 m
Pool = $8.7244 m
overage = $0.5481 m (6.28%)
That's the spirit.Sorry. Didn’t realize you didn’t care. We will stop this discussion immediately.
