Another 4-2 w.....cantplay gets another g

Cantplay is gold. He's having a solid start to the season though, he looks like a totally different player.

Speaking of looking different, Carter with the hobo hair these days.

I havent watched a second....im hoping cantplay turns into the player he was in worlds i thonk it was.

Still think this whole covid cup is dumb, i read dallas games where postponed and canes have to play with a practice squad and 2 dmen as forwards or something.....just stupid

Brain turned off. Kings had one defense man down from puck to the face and then two after this. The team looked bad from the beginning but this didn’t help. AA on COVID watch too. Just bad luck and af play all at once

As stated, they looked bad to begin with but losing both Walker and Roy, and both RH shots to boot, stinks. Hopefully they are on the mend and come back soon. Good solid developing players.

Doughty with the "I dominated on defense" quote. Love the guy but just STFU, don't hurt yourself patting your back too much. He did play well after those two went down, but is there really a need to advertise that?

Curious who they will promote for tomorrow. Have to assume two of Bjornfot, Alt and Strand are up. The last two because they are RH shots and apart from Doughty no one on else on the current roster is.

First Freeway Faceoff tomorrow night, let's see which team passes Covid to who first. Should be a good game of bottom dwellers.

I haven't checked out eBay is so long, seems like Amazon and the like have made them obsolete. There was a time I was on eBay constantly and they really had a hand in the growth of online shopping.

Decided to punch in Kings stuff to look at and this came up:

Brown elevated again to a T6 spot. That experiment is so long played out it's not even funny. Tells you about the depth the Kings have when a 18 year veteran still somehow manages to lock down a spot like that, these young kids need to step up and replace players like him.

Thank god his contract is coming to an end, minus the little burst 3-4 years ago he didn't earn much on this deal. His third contract however was a steal (6 years/$19.05 million).

Brown is getting paid for the what he had done not what he can do. It is Kopitar and Doughty that are really overpaid. They each wanted to be paid what other idiot GMs paid players. With the cap flattening out and so much escrow being withheld, long big deals will hurt everyone

I don't think Kopitar is overpaid, and Doughty was in a unique position to hit the market as a UFA and had Karlsson as not only a comp but also as a partner in crime to elevate their salaries. Franchise centers, defenders and goalies are cornerstones to franchises, centers being probably the hardest to find. You pay these guys, not guys like Brown.

Just checking some numbers for franchise centers (at the time) who signed big deals (Kopitar, Tavares, Malkin, Toews and Stamkos) and Kopitar has been pretty steady before and after the contract. Key is Player/AAV/Date of Contract/Age at Signing/Age Now/Years/PPG at Signing/PPG After Signing:

Kopitar $10 million Jan 2016 28/33 8 .89/.88
Tavares $11 million July 2018 27/30 7 .93/1.02
Malkin $9.5 million July 2013 27/34 8 1.22/1.14
Toews $10.5 million July 2014 26/32 8 .91/.82
Stamkos $8.5 million June 2016 26/30 (31 on Sunday) 8 .99/1.16

You can see two guys increased their PPG after the signing (Tavares/Stamkos), Kopitar maintained his pace 5 years into the deal (Hart nomination and another Selke win only 2 years seasons ago) and two guys dropped in PPG (Malkin/Toews, who has completely fallen off a cliff). I'm only going by offense here and not their overall games but Toews/Kopitar/Malkin are two way centers, Tavares is a step down from that and Stamkos is average. But they all are/were franchise centers when these deals were signed.

There were some circumstances on these contracts - Tavares hit UFA as a 1C and left his former team (that almost never happens - teams generally keep their franchise players) so the bidding was high and Stamkos took less than he could have had he hit the market - but Kopitar is paid exactly where he should be for what he brings to the table and has been pretty consistent throughout his career.

Doughty, I'm willing to give him this season and take a look. Kopitar had a horrendous first season (2016-17, 76GP/52 points) under this contract too as did Doughty. If by next season his play still looks like this or worse, I think it'll be safe to say he is overpaid but he is paid what the market (Karlsson) dictated.

Long deals do hurt everyone, I was hoping they would have capped them at lower terms like they did under the 2013 CBA moving forward but I don't think the NHLPA would go for that.

Big night for ex Kings scoring goals: Toffoli scores again (9 goals now. Granted he has feasted on Vancouver and he should be spent pretty soon) and two honorary members of Club HOS scored in the same game for Winnipeg, both Lewis and Forbort.

The Duck loving wife was reminding me the Kings suck. Ducks scored 3 goals in one game, practically doubling their season total( ok joking)

Kings Knights tonight - 5-3 Vegas win. Some undrafted schlep named Dylan Cohglan will make is debut tonight on D, Pietrangelo on C19 protocol. I expect said schlep to figure into the score sheet somehow; never fails.

Haven't looked but I think Frk is in tonight. Hope so.
