Top prospects to watch in 2021

Rangers: Cole Winn, RHP (Rangers' No. 3)

The Rangers drafted Winn 15th overall last June and had him focus on conditioning and instruction during his first pro summer, so he won't make his debut until later this year. He already possesses two plus pitches in a 92-97 mph fastball and a 12-to-6 curveball, owns a potential third in his low-80s slider and has promising fade on his changeup.

I think the Cabrera signing might be the most underrated signing we have made in some time.

So much for the grand idea some had that we would pursue Arenado next fall.

Yanks has same idea but yes. Seems like a spot we would like to fill outside of our organization

Can’t wait until he and his contract are long gone.

Choo and fielder were both damaged goods as far as I’m concerned. It seemed like they spent about 60-70% of their contract time on the DL or unavailable. What a disaster.

Not all is lost if FO has learned anything.

I keep trying to say this. It isn't the extensions I have a beef with. What I have a beef with is not being able to move on when an extension doesn't work out and a better player comes along. I only mentioned Odor because he is the first one to not work out and have the team not turn the page and move on to the better player. Since I don't trust that the next case would be different, that makes me not want to see any other extensions being given at this time. We have too many good young players coming up in the next 2 to 3 years for them to be passed over just because a lesser player has an extension.

I do think the rush for extensions is based on the fear of not being able to pay the player what he is worth if he improves. That was okay for the era of a bankrupt owner, but not any longer.

None of the extensions worked out too well, but that is not really important. It might be a lesson learned though.

I agree with this 100%.

This isn’t little league. The best player should play.

Agree completely. There is no way that was going to happen.
I don't think we will ever spend what it takes to do something like that.

We might overpay in a trade for a guy who is half way through a contract like that
