Not sure if it's worse officiating, but there is definitely more flags being thrown. I don't have the numbers in front of me but there's like 25% more penalties per game than last year.
That I think is true....guessing has a lot to do with rules that have been added recently and over the years since I started watching.

That's on NFL...not the refs.

Hadn't heard how long out, but agree if 3 weeks could have been a lot worse.

Don't feel like looking....bye week mixed in there?

actually thanks for reminding me to look that up. I know we play the Packers at home in a week and a half...

looking like it'll be towards the end od November...

I've been watching the NFL since 1970. I don't believe that the officiating has gotten worse.

There always have been and always will be bad calls. It's just that, as you point out, nowadays it seems like we know about every bad call from every game, even ones we didn't watch. And they all get replayed over and over.

I think that with all of rule changes, the game has also become harder to officiate which adds tobthe perception that it's gotten worse.
Last part I think is 100% true. Have said so many just don't want to acknowledge how tough this game is to officiate, especially compared to other sports.

I think that's because of the rule changes. There are a lot of things that are penalties now that didn't used to be and they seem to add more every year.

It makes games hard to watch at times because you find yourself looking for a flag after every play instead of just enjoying the play.

Which comes back to what I was saying before, in football officials affect the game outcomes more than any other sport, especially now. And that is a disadvantage of football and one reason I'm not that into it

While I don't disagree with original premise you turn away because a ref might have an outcome?

And let's be clear.....while 1 bad call in NFL does have an affect more so than other sports don't be fooled by all the crying about calls. Even with the worst of the worst calls, teams are still allowed to overcome the bad call.

Take the NFC title game.....NO was still allowed to stop LA from scoring and forcing OT. They were also allowed to score when they had the ball first in OT. And, finally, allowed to stop LA from scoring when they got the ball.

i'm still not so sure simply because in basketball refs simply have MORE cases in which they can affect a game, but that's my opinion...

I disagree. It's no different than any other sport. Officials effect the way a game is played by how they call the game. But the players decide the game by how they react to it. We've all seen NBA games where the officials are calling a lot of fouls and practically turn the game into a free throw shooting contest.

In fact, in a close game, officials have more of an effect in basketball because it's a sport where a foul can directly lead to points. So a call or non-call late in a game can have a huge effect. There are no free throws in football or basketball.

This is true, but I think msg's point is one single bad call can change an outcome more in football than the other sports and I tend to agree.

A reason not to watch the sport? That seems absurd if you actually love the sport.

But in basketball one bad call might get you 2 points, less than 2% of the total. In football it could cost you 20-50% of your points.

I am not budging on this one, and I'm surprised I get so much pushback. I guess football fans REALLY like football, but I just don't care that much. And one reason is all the yellow flags gumming up the game. Even Tom Brady says that's unwatchable

Exactly. And I don't love it.

The last time I really enjoyed a football watching experience was that super fun Rams Chiefs shootout last year. But those games are rare and frankly it would be boring if every game was like that.

Yet ratings are staying steady.

Hey, if ya don't like the sport that is one thing, but to stay away because one call is most important in this sport seems odd. Nature of the sport.

There are many reasons it doesn't excite me, that's one

True, but in football, it's a lot harder to score. Additionally, because football gets more points per score, the percentage of points doesn't matter. In a close game, it's still a 1 score game, but in basketball you get to try to score uncontested. In football you don't.

Also, Tom Brady didn't say that bad calls or the quality of officiating made the game unwatchable, he said that too many calls made it unwatchable.

That's no different in basketball. Most find the free throw shooting contests that refs can occasionally turn games into unwatchable.

I agree 100% on too many calls making games unwatchable in both sports.

Anyone else see this?

Draymond Green Says We Should Blame "Shitty Franchises" For Draft Busts

Probably some truth to it, but I'm not so sure. If true, why has GS found nothing more than a JAG in so long? Could also look as Suns. OK.....Chriss (or Bender) look like busts, but Booker is a star.

Franchise matters, sure, but think more about the player.

I wonder if they asked Draymond, "if you were taken by the Suns would you have been a bust"? what his answer might be.

Because they pick at 29 or 30 every year.

A lot harder to find difference makers at those spots.
