Was just a hypothetical...many of them going on here.

OK do it this way. Both are FAs. Lakers have $20 mil to spend and can use it on those 2. How are they spending it?

It depends on where the other holes in the lineup are that weren't covered with that $20M.

Faried is a better option than TT...cheaper and doesn't come with off the court drama. While giving you better production if he gets the same PT.

No he is not though.

Fareid can score and rebound for sure.

But TT’s best asset is his perimeter defense and Faried is a liability there.

TT is not available so it is moot.

But if he were bought out and Faried and TT were both available at the same price, Lakers would sign TT 100 times out of 100.

Wow.....TT is a solid double double guy even for a Finals' contender. If this is true, why can't Faried even find a team?

Stop embarrassing yourself.

Sure, but not at the outlandish price of $18M, even if they had it available.

Tristan Thompson is a better fit for what the Lakers need with AD and LeBron.

Cousins is a better player.

I would think if they had 20 million and both were FAs they would sign TT for about 8 and use the rest on a perimeter player. Don’t think it makes sense to sign both when you already have AD and Kuzma, and are thin with depth at 1-3.

I agree.

But TT would have gotten more than Boogie if he were a free agent this summer. That is certain.

There is a market for his skill set.

Healthy Boogie is a different matter entirely. But we won’t see that until 2021 at the earliest.

Of course, there's a huge gap from $3.5 to $18M though.

I agree....but think if it had to be one or the other they sign TT.

Isn't to say he's the better player when healthy. He's not. But LA is looking to be a title contender and they could take a chance on cousins (I say that had they not known he'd go down for sure).

He wouldn't get $18M on the open market, especially from a team like the Lakers.
If he wanted a 1-year deal he absolutely would. But my guess is he wants more than a year and takes something in the 13-16 mil range per.

That's all true except the the concept that he's worth $18M. They can get that kind of effort (at a lower level of effectivity of course) from Johnathan Williams for the league minimum.
you think same production from Williams as TT?

How did they suddenly do that for $20M less? Did they raise a statue for Pelinka already?

Totally hypothetical:

Cousins did not just tear his ACL and TT is available.

You can sign 1 player for the MLE.

Which one fits the Laker roster better?

I say TT hands down.

2 of your 3 best players (LeBron, AD, Kuzma) are not exactly stellar perimeter defenders. I think TT’s defense is needed more than Boogie’s offense.

And those extra possessions from his offensive rebounding wouldn't hurt either (not that Cousins can't rebound).

If you believe that it's another reason not to play him any sooner....that and the whole playing for the lottery thing this past season.

Prior season our seed was pretty much locked up so no reason to rush him.

Here’s what you keep omitting.
Players get paid off of stats, performance.
He’s a FA this summer.
It does him no good to not play if he can, and if he can and team isn’t, then chances are he’d have been saying it.

OK...but he was not a FA after last season nor the previous season. And the stats looked at for him would not be counting stats but more per game numbers. This isn't MLB with HRs and RBI. But I applaud you for reaching.

This season might be a different story as agree he would not want to go into FA looking like a guy who gets hurt now as opposed to being the iron man he was.
