There's been very few franchise changers selected in the top 5 the last 10 years or so

Cap space means nothing because Cleveland isn't a free agent destination for top players.
but they can use the space and the picks to acquire players in trade.

Last 10 years? Maybe Harden, AD and Embiid. If franchise changer means could be best player on title team that would exclude Kyrie. Too early for Doncic and way too early for Zion.

Harden was draft prior to 2009. My 3 were AD, Embiid, and Simmons.

And in a city that IS a FA destination you are now in year 6 of "purgatory at best". Gonna take luck but I've seen them do it a couple times.

Clearly you got cornered making a stupid statement, so you want to start a new discussion?

Find any timetable I put on the Heat.

LOL you do realize didn't have the cap space to sign anyone most of those years right? The only year of those 6 where they struck out was 2016 when they missed out on Hayward and KD.

Also including 2014 is silly. They were in a similar situation as Toronto was this year. Waiting around for a top player to make his decision to resign with your team or not. By the time the decision was made, it was far too late to sign anyone good as they were all gone.

So basically we are talking about 2015-2018 and the only year they failed was 2016.

You're talking as if the Heat had money to sign top players each of those 6 seasons. The only year they really had money was 2016

Wow. This tired argument's come up again.

I just wondered why Cleveland fans are happy if Indians, Browns can win games, but then come here saying opposite about Cavs.
I think its easy answer. The Indians do, and Browns appear to have good players.

He has no clue what the Heats been up against since LeBron left.
Cavs were/are left in a much better position with James leaving then we were.
Beside Bosh illness, both Bosh and James came as sign and trades so Heat was forced to give up draft picks.
Cavs were still getting them after James was back on Cavs.

Cornered making a stupid statement? I'm not the only one who agreed that's the way the Cavs need to go. And they have turned things around in 2-3 years before, ready to go in year 4.

But nice deflection for the fact your team enters year 6 now post Lebron of being irrelevant.

Yes, I do realize this. That's the point. Doing it their way they are in year 6 and they do not look to be out of Purgatory.

Last time Cavs lost Lebron, they contended again after the 4th season. Sure, needed to get Lebron back but Miami could have taken that route. Can they do it again without Lebron coming back? I'm not betting on it, but we'll see.

I think the Washington Generals will beat the Globetrotters before the Cavs turn things around.:heh:

So would seem you agree with what the Cavs have done. Worked the last time they did it and didn't take much more than 3 years. Of course, I doubt a star from NE Ohio will be saving us in 2-3 years so they do have their work cut out for them.

Yeah, it's going to be trickier this time. Imo, they were headed in the right direction when Lebron decided to return. Now, they're in essentially the same situation as when he left the first time.

Unless they pull off a blockbuster trade, even if they nail the draft every year, it's probably going to be a good 4-5 years before we see how good they can be.

And i explained why but that lack of reading comp. always an issue for you.

You do get the Browns had to tank to get where they are today? as I often say, I can just sit back and allow you to make my point for me.

Browns were 3-13 (after a number of years of poor play) and finally decided to do what was needed for years.....a complete teardown. No more signing middling vets to win an extra few games to go 4-12 or 5-11 (or 6-7 wins if lucky), but never get the top pick in the draft.

They stripped the roster, cleared as much cap space as they could and added as many picks in rounds 1 and 2 that they could. Here's a flash......it worked.

McFly? when Lebron left the first time we were left with a number of old players and bad contracts. Luckily, they had an owner willing to spend extra even when the team could not win and buy Baron Davis AND a pick that came with him....which became Kyrie. They are doing it again spending extra on guys like Knight to get extra picks. will they get another Kyrie? Doubt it, but the more picks the better chance to hit.

They turned things around when they 1. drafted LeBron, and 2. When they won the rights to Wiggins with a 1.7% chance which enabled them to get Love and in turn James to come back.
Other than that, not so much turning, which also has nothing to do with the future.

For this conversation, YOU said "Nor would I, but I don't consider 2-3 years endless."
That clearly implies that you are suggesting that this rebuild will be 2-3 season.
Like I said this is year 2, so good luck with that plan.
That is all that matters.

Seems like the new norm in life is when someone is called out for saying/doing stupid shit, all they can do is counter with something that has nothing to do with what is being pointed out.

As a Browns' fan surprised you didn't chime in when it was mentioned how good they might be now and how happy fans are (yeah...I get need to see it on the field).

The Browns did it by tanking and bottoming out to get Garrett then again so they could take the QB of their choice (along with all the cap space to trade for guys like Landry and OBJ). Fans like me knew the tank was needed or we were going to have more seasons of 4-5 wins (6-7 if lucky).

Heading in the right direction isn’t that hard.

Completing the rebuild with savvy moves to get you to the top is the hard part.

It is extremely difficult for teams to do that without signing difference making free agents.

I agree, but we are still 3 seasons away before we are where they were when Lebron decided to return. While I think the picks of TT and Waiters were OK maybe sexton and Garland are better. Still gotta get another Kyrie.....hopefully same talent and less cray cray.
