he played 25 minutes last year

not 25 minutes a game

25 minutes

the

whole

year

(and yes- its more like 70 minutes- but thats not as funny)

Most were prob in last 2 games with Wade.
Not sure what your point is?
Riley/Arison will let him retire on his own terms.

He is literally the 13th man. Are we now expecting big minutes from the 13th man on the roster?

there is a difference between "big minutes" and being completely useless and nothing more than a coach.

Exactly. Veteran presence in the locker room who been through it all

Plus, it's an end of the bench type contract. Basically a "thank you" from the Heat for all that he's meant to the franchise.

The fact that the Heat have young guys who can learn from him makes it even better for them, imo.

why not just make him a coach?

why take up a roster spot for a guy that is not going to play?

I mean- if there was even a CHANCE he would play id say go for it.

when you KNOW he is not going to play i dont see the justification.

Yup. No surprise only 1 person see a problem with this. Forgot players who are now 13th, 14th, or 15th man on the roster are expected to contribute

There's literally 16 other spots for that.

It is something called loyalty. Why force him into retirement? You don't treat players like that....at least not one who been with you for 16 years

There are some players that you do that for. I see it like the last big contract that the Lakers gave Kobe. Was Kobe, from a production standpoint, worth that money? Hell no.

Did he earn that contract with what he had meant to the franchise over the previous 18 years? Hell yes.

Haslem's deal is a far less expensive version of that.

all i have heard is constant whining about injuries the last few years on the Heat---- but instead of giving the roster spot to someone that might actually be able to play and contribute- they give a pity contract to a guy they know wont be on the court.

At least James Jones saw minutes for the Cavs- even playoff minutes.

I dont see how you can justify giving a roster spot to someone you know is not going to play. Thats what coaches are for.

I mean, Kobe actually played basketball

Haslem might play a little more than you or me

especially on a team that hopes to actually make the playoffs and has had significant injuries the last few years.

burning a roster spot for someone that you know wont play seems incredibly dumb---- but hey- it is Pat Riley.

because i would prob bet on you in a contest to see how many jumping jacks you could do before tiring out.

So once again, you comment on something you know nothing about.

He works out 2-3 times daily.

Dude, he helped them get their first ring.

He can be the executive towel waver as long as he wants.
