Do they Pelicans now have a brighter future than they did this time last season?

I say yes.

Regardless of how it played out and how bad the timing and handling was, Davis’ request helped the Pelicans move forward.

And Davis also made it clear that he would “honor the contract” by playing it out as long as he was in New Orleans. Just that he preferred to be traded. And New Orleans decided it was mutually beneficial to oblige.

I am going to play devils advocate here for a second.

Anthony Davis, for example, absolutely honored his contract.

He asked to be traded because he made his decision that he wasn't signing long term and wanted to play in a big market. The games that he missed last season were because the Pelicans chose to sit him out. Not because he refused to play.

So even though he caused a ton of drama, the reality is that Davis’ actions helped the Pelicans tremendously. Because:

A) they were going to miss the playoffs anyway last year
B) Davis’ request allowed them to tank which helped them land the #1 pick
C) they were able to trade him for a pretty good haul of future assets

Now, had he said something like:

“I am not going to play until you guys trade me”

That would be not honoring the contract.

A trade request is not the same thing. A trade request actually helps the team by giving them information as to how to proceed with their franchise star. It is usually much worse when they decide to walk away with no warning like LeBron or KD.

I agree in part with this, but, as others have also pointed it, he eliminated the Pelicans from negotiating with any other team but the Lakers.

I also stated, it should be done in private. No reason for anyone to know about it.

He was still under contract when he wore his 'Thats All Folks' to the final game last season.

I understand its a back and forth debate, but I think it's clear that the owners aren't happy with the direction player power has turned.
They have to live with it for the next few years until the next CBA, but when that time comes, I think all the fun and games will be over with.

Per Synergy, Trey Burke ranked in the 87th percentile as a pick and roll ball handler (190 possessions) in his last full season with the Knicks, 2017-2018. Kyle O’Quinn set some of those screens.

Trey Burke on a Vet min deal is the 12th best value move of 2019 free agency according to @The_BBall_Index they also give Burke a 77.3% chance to produce positive value on that contract.

Scored 29 points in a Knicks win over the Celtics in 2018. So, there's that....

Not much defense, but pointz.
Low cost, low risk, high reward type of deal.

Curious to know if KOQ was instrumental in getting him to sign here.

That’s why owners should put a penalty clause in their contracts if they want out.
Why should owners have to pay an additional amount if they decide to trade them, but not be compensated when player puts them in this position?

I don’t have issue with it, if its behind closed doors, meaning we don’t know about it.
Example, AD privately goes to owner and says ‘Heads up, Im not signing extension and I plan to leave when I become a FA. I prefer LA. If you think you can work out a deal that you’re happy with, you might want to consider.


Then, he’s doing them a favor.

In fact I think it should go down the way you said it should. You made a claim they shouldn't be able to ask for a trade and now you are backtracking and saying if done right it's OK.

You get it's the team ACQUIRING the player who has to pay the extra money? And they know this when they make the deal. Don't want to pay it? Ask him to waive it or don't acquire him.

Name me any time an owner didn’t honor one.

yep...just like if it's in a contract a player gets a trade kicker he should get a kicker if traded. whiole I agree seems odd it applies if he wants the trade, the team acquiring him knows it's in there.

the owners loyalty is paying the player millions upon millions of dollars even if they get hurt or start to suck

well, in fairness, they do this because they have to per the CBA....the CBA that also gives them a cap and max contracts to work with.
