Hard to say.

Best guess is climate.

Many more cold weather cities in the East. And most of the Eastern warm weather cities play in small markets and have not been good enough to attract a FA (Orlando, Charlotte, Atlanta- although they are clearly on the rise)

Even Washington from the South division gets pretty darn cold in the winter.

I get that but things are so much harder out west. Making AS teams is so much easier in the East. Don't you get some type of bonus for making the AS team or am I going crazy? That alone would have me considering going to the East

Seriously?

I was always told size didn’t matter.

Damn
The ladies say that to some men, but to the rest of us they tell the truth

There are only 4 big markets with great weather out west (Clippers, Lakers, Houston, and Dallas) and I can't remember the last time Dallas signed a big name free agent.

You don't consider Phoenix great weather? Come on! It's a dry heat & if you stay in the A/C those 115+ degree days ain't nothing. Right @Mecca?:heh:

Shit I thought Vegas was hot. Then I took my 1st trip to Phoenix one summer & thought it was impossible for another place not named Death Valley (been there, cool place) to be hotter than Lost Wages. I was wrong about that. It's fuckin' hot in that city.

I agree with you.

Just has not happened.

That does not really matter for the elites like Kawhi. It is all about quality of life and chance to contend.

But for guys on the level of McCollum or Russell?

No chance at making an all star team in the West, but they would almost be locks in the East.

Kyle Lowry is a 5 time all star. He would have 0 had he remained in the West.

Phoenix is a great weather but what top free agents are going there? That's why I left them off my list

There are only 2 in the East.

And also a few smaller markets with more moderate climates.

IMO the Raptors are in the lottery now. They lost their best overall player and their best shooter.

They went something like 17-4 without Kawhi last year. OG Anunoby missed most of the 2nd half the season too. Van Vleet will probably get more minutes and if he plays like he did in the playoffs, that'll stop the bleeding some. They should still be a solid playoff team unless Ujiri decides to go ahead and blow it apart for assets. A lot of those guys (Gasol, Lowry) are on expiring contracts. For the right deal, it could be better to blow it apart than play for the 5th seed, a 2nd round exit, and watch those guys leave in the offseason

Lou Williams still plays ball in the league lol.

True.

But his role will diminish at least a little given the teams’ title aspirations and and the presence of the 2 added stars.

Don’t be surprised if he gets fewer regular season minutes AND the offense does not flow through him like it has the past 2 years.

I am not sure who will get 6th man of the year, but don’t be surprised if it is somebody new. I would definitely bet the field over Lou this season.
