So where does Hughes stack among the other #1s??? I'm sensing better than Nico obviously...

Is he truly a can't miss?

I really like Kakko and someone with a Laine type shot is HIGHLY NEEDED here in Jersey. IMO

Hughes should be number 1. I think Kappo is more a Taylor Hall type than Patrick Laine type.

I'll be thrilled with either but I think you have to go with the center on this one.

Agree, have to go with the potential of having two #1 caliber centers anchoring your top 2 lines.

Outside of planning a parade, this is the best way to start your off-season.

So let's assume we take Hughes, do you move Zacha to wing? He can't be 4th line center can he?

I might catch some shit for this, but while Zacha's talent says he shouldn't be the 4th line center, the results say otherwise. Do I think they'll put him on the 4th line? Probably not, so a move to wing may be in order.

Maybe a move to wing (less demanding position) and addition of another big talent takes some pressure off of him and he can excel.

Otherwise, Zacha along with the 57th and 62nd pick would have to be incredibly appealing as a trade package.

Coleman-Zajac-Woods

Would like a top 6 winger, I think Bratt on a third line would be great.

Also we have four free agents on D, Butcher, Mueller and Carrick are all RFA, Russian dude is UFA.

As of now we have Vatanen, Greene, Severson and Santini. Carrick I don't mind as a 7/8 healthy scratch guy. Butcher I would like to bring back, Mueller I'm torn on. Keep in mind Ty Smith almost made the jump last year and we may need to bring in an outside talent.

I had a stronger opinion few years ago wanting Nico over Patrick.
Here I am ok with either but if I had to choose, would take Hughes.

This is crazy. I was traveling last night and got the alert and then flooded with texts that we got the number 1 pick. I still cant believe it.

Smith is a hockey junkie, a rink rat who also happens to be an exceptionally talented player. The skill and the work ethic made him a prodigy growing up in Saskatchewan, and continue to propel him towards an NHL career.

Also, can we sign Jordan Eberle? We need a legit top 6 winger and I'm sure Taylor Hall would love it. Kill 2 birds with one stone.

Another upcoming free agent I'm intrigued by is Wayne Simmonds. Not sure how much he has left but we could desperately use a bodyguard. We're a small team (Hall, Nico, Palmieri, Butcher, Ty Smith, possibly Hughes). Bring in a guy like Simmonds and hope Miles Wood finds his game again.

Yeah, as much as I hate the guy when playing against him, he's a guy I'd love on my team.
