Adding Flowers would allow us to draft White instead of Allen although either would probably be fine at that point. If we dont we would definitely have to go for Allen.

Davis and White combined could be treacherous for other teams. I think Davis had 6 sacks this year. Imagine twists/stunts with either of them at any given time.

Leaning more and more with White every day.

Allen could become similar to V. Miller if used right in a diverse scheme. Miller plays more inclined to a natural 3-4 Rush/OLB though. Lions base defense is still in transition from a player personnel perspective.

I am leaning a bit towards Allen. Depending on what he weighs at the combine. If he is in the 230's then no way. Not interested in a, B. Mingo type. If he is in the 260's then I would prefer him over White but it's definitely close either way.

Vernon is the guy he most reminds me of actually. Good player for sure. Which Flowers is definitely good.

kind of. a true apple to oranges here with Vernon and Flowers as you noted.

Short is more of a DT and I think Flowers is a DE right?

He's a DT but just wanted to point out the $$$ being floated to players that weren't statistically inclined to get such a payday, imo. It was nothing more than laying out $$$ given out and not a demeaning or degrading comment specifically to you.

That is just health. Flowers has better numbers while JJ was hurt but it's apples to oranges here. Watt is a 3 time defensive player of the year and generational talent. He came back and immediately got 16 sacks this year. Flowers has 21 CAREER sacks.

I guess my point was, Watt got that payday back in september of 2014 when the cap was like 133M. That contract was averaged at 16.6M which was a boat load back then. He's earned every damn penny and injuries happen but if your not healthy to play fans are screaming because of that. You know Lions fans would feel victimized somehow and be bitching up a storm.

Watt is a freak athlete and players like him are a rarity.

Allen is a legit 260 lbs. at the moment. He might drop 5 lbs or so between now and the combine to improve on his 40 time but I highly doubt that. There would be virtually no benefit in that, imo. Also, I highly doubt Allen makes it past 49'ers or the NYJets or even Oakland. He just might end up the #1 overall pick even over Bosa. The Cardinals could pair Allen with Chandler Jones.

Surprisingly, while researching stats yesterday, Chandler Jones is ahead of all true Edge Rushers. but not DT Donald.

Glover Quin heads into offseason of uncertainty: ‘For me, it was a down year’

He’s spoken all season like a man ready to hang it up. That’s what the next couple months will be about figuring out. He’ll also look back on this season and try his best to put the frustrations into context.

BB_72; not sure if this is the writer that wrote the article last fall about Quin retiring but he states the possibility in here. Maybe it's previous conversations he's had during last season that has led him to this guess/possibility. Quin didn't state retirement is definitive in this article at all.

I would like to have him 1 more year but we have some pretty good safeties. I am more worried about the #2CB. Nobody stepped up.

@Old Lion

maybe start a new thread so those dates don't get lost in that FA thread. :noidea:

you know there'll be questions upcoming regarding those schedule dates. might as well beat them to the punch.

I'll drag them to the top every now and then with info regarding ongoing events within.

I'm not qualified to start new threads. still earning stripes.

Quin is done. He was done last year.

Accept it even though you're struggling to come terms with it.

If they were smart, they could sign FA Eric Reid. He still played above par with the Panthers after they signed him early on into the season.

Forget the bullshit surrounding him and protests. Owners, GM's and Head Coaches need to get over it and not deny players the right to play.

Yup, I noticed a drop off with him this year. I would be fine with a FA replacement if necessary.

I was hoping TW3 would get more time this year. Diggs is back to playing very well. I think Tabor needs to move to Safety. He just does not have it as a CB. Agnew is our only hope there so it is more dire IMO.

I know. That is the annoying thing about winning at GB the last game in a meaningless win. You don't get a shot at the super freaks, blue chipper prospects. Maybe we can get lucky and someone take Cardele Jones the 2nd and a couple OT's early and we get a chance at him.

Don't be shocked when Gruden shops/trades Derek Carr and then drafts D. Haskins @4 if not in a move up. The dead money was somewhere around 7.5M and Cap Savings of 15M. They already have 73.5M in effective cap spending and then tack on another 15M to that. The draft slot @4 would cost 5.7M

I'm not kidding either. Gruden will salivate over Haskins or already is. I've watched all of his past QB sit-downs with Draft Prospects. He gives a tell in each one of who he preferred had he been coaching at that time.

Agnew has the makeup to become a damn good slot CB. he has the easy transition from his backpedal to turn and run, extremely loose hips, a very good hand fighter, decent route recognition skills. he needs the reps though and then he got hurt early on in that GB game.

I agree but he got used and abused by Cole Beasly in the slot the game before. It was hard to watch. When he played outside last year as a rookie he was decent.

Slay got abused in 1st and 2nd year and THIS YEAR

He needs major reps in training camp but against this receiving corps ?

WalterFootball.com: 2019 NFL Free Agents - Top 100

I couldn't locate another list so far

@Old Lion

Trey Flowers is listed as 4th best

after Clowney, D. Lawrence and Le Veon

Trey Flowers, DE, Patriots. Age: 26.

If you want proof that Trey Flowers was crucial to New England's defense last year, consider that he missed the Jacksonville and Detroit games (was knocked out on the opening drive versus the Jaguars), and New England lost both contests despite those opponents failing to make the playoffs. Flowers is an exceptional talent as both a pass rusher and a run stopper. He's just 26 (in August), so he should continue to improve his game.

Not nearly as bad as Agnew IMO. I still like him and think he can get there. I just think it might be on the outside.

CB Kareem Jackson is listed as 35th best FA and ahead of Golden Tate

Kareem Jackson, CB, Texans. Age: 31.

Kareem Jackson emerged as one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL this past season. He's a late bloomer for certain. Unfortunately for Jackson, he's turning 31 in April, so he doesn't have much time left to play on a high level.
