No doubt. But that's where at least half the effort should be focused. In addition to that we seem to be more hell bent on the police themselves rather than changing the system that they are merely enforcing.

It's like blaming the refs in the NFL for the stupid pass interfere replay they tried out. Wasn't the refs idea it was just a bad rule.

Work on the system itself that is designed to mass incarcerate...especially young black males.

All that said of course there are bad cops and there has been a lot of turning the blind eye to bad behavior from bad cops. I won't deny that. But the issue is bigger than just that.

NBA players have always done this.

Just isn’t what the media focuses on.

What more do they want from the owners? Would they like the owners to arrest these cops?

It's why I questioned this approach by the NBA. The most the NBA can do is simply bring awareness. Prior to the bubble, people were already well aware of what was going on in the world.

The owners have extreme clout and influence in local politics, how do you think they get tax payer funded stadiums? They want the owners to actually use their connections for the greater good rather than their own pocket book for once.

instead of threatening to leave a city because they didn't get tax payer money, how about threatening to leave because of injustice?

If injustice is rampant throughout the country, what would relocating your team solve? And before you say overseas, there's likely a bigger process that goes on there. And I'll tell you a little secret - there's racism in other parts of the world too. *gasp*

And how does one measure sometimes such as a degree of injustice? It's not the same as a cash agreement.

And if you ever needed an example of what I mean by media trying to control the narrative:

My other issue with the players if you were looking for more from the owners then why wasn't it requested/demanded before agreeing to the terms of the restart? Lets wait til we been in here for nearly 2 months and request thing or boycott the rest of the season. Clown shit

The owners and the commissioner (almost to a fault) have been very lenient and flexible with the players. In the end, you know what helps bring people together? Sports. That divide grows more and more each day.

And it’s just a matter of time til an owner or someone speaks out. The playoffs are where the owners make their money.

Does anyone believe Kawhi was “adamant” let alone leading a group of hundreds of players?

Cmon now.

Nope. I guarantee for the Clippers it was Trez and Lou Williams. Probably Reggie Jackson because I don't think he's the type that really cares about winning.

Almost anyone sane has said that law enforcement has to be part of this. They're the problem!

Yes and no.

They are not the problem. They are part of the problem.

Another part of the problem is people resisting arrest. If that doesn't happen, things don't escalate and there is no additional force necessary.

Another part of the problem is in the training that police officers receive.

Another part of the problem is continually re-electing people who haven't done anything to help make things better.

I always think of it this way.

Imagine if each of the co-workers you have now, even the weird, incompetent, and domineering ones, was a cop.

And imagine how they would react if faced with a dangerous situation and had a gun at their disposal.

Being a cop is a job like any other job, there's people who are bad at their job.

Well, its not doing "nothing". It's gotten people to pay attention. Which is the point. It's calling attention to the issues at hand. And depending on what plans they come up with, can draw further attention, launch initiatives, etc.

I do agree that it would be in their best interest to keep playing at some point though. The reason the boycott is an effective noise maker is because they were playing to begin with. If they never bothered to start playing like some players proposes earlier this summer, most of their voices and outreach would be unheard and unnoticed. Like the only player with any kind of cache that will make headlines if there's no games is if Lebron does something. If there's no basketball, the news isn't gonna talk about Jaylon Brown attending a rally.

Right. Yeah, I'm fine with a couple days but boycotting the season...in the end, is honestly doing less than having the NBA playoffs as a platform. Short-term is short-term....this is about long-term.

I haven’t read or looked at anything. Are the playing today? Are things still up in the air?

Agree. A big part of that problem is the police unions.

At my job, if I had an employee who was bad at their job...depending on the reason, I could fire them "on the spot" or start disciplinary action designed to improve their performance and that could ultimately end with them being fired if there isn't enough improvement.

Police unions make this much more difficult to get them to improve or get them out quickly. So, imo, there needs to be something done to limit the power and reach of unions.

Get rid of the unions and start to rebuild the trust with the communities.

At this point, it seems unlikely that there will be games today. At least that's what Dan Patrick is saying.

I don't know if they still have them, but in the 90's I ran a diversion program for first time juvenile offenders that worked closely with local law enforcement.

The 2 local police departments had what was called P.A.L. (Police Activities League). They actually had a building where they had after school activities for kids that were supervised and administered by off duty and retired police officers.

I haven't kept up with it over the years, but I have a feeling that it was probably scrapped due to budget cuts because I haven't heard anything about it in a long time and it's no longer in the building it used to be in.

But getting something like that going with as many departments as possible would go along way towards building trust, imo.
