Not necessarily. Ohio is planning on doubling and tripling those tested. I don't think anyone thinks the mortality rate of this is 5 percent as it shows

Probably for those above 65

I didnt suggest overall mortality rate at 5%.
I said less then 5% of our population has been tested.

Plus, as we’ve learned, testing negative today doesn’t mean you wont be positive tomorrow.
Throw in the 15% of inaccurate results, and what you have is a giant cluster fuck.

Yea no I meant Ohio shows a five percent mortality rate based on confirmed cases as to deaths. So obviously our true case count is much higher

If I was to guess I'd agree about 5-10 percent of the population has actually had it hopefully the summer can be our savior and buy time

Not comparing other than to say that it's the same thing. Not sure how you got that from my post.
Wait, what? Not comparing, but saying it is the same thing? That is a direct comparison, and it is wrong.

Are there truly that many more new cases, or is there just more testing?

From everything I've read all of the numbers are trending in the right direction and have been for a while.

Additionally, I don't know how they are going to handle things in Michigan. But in California, they aren't just going to open everything back up right away. They're going to do it in stages. I think one thing that was mentioned was that when they start to re-open things like movie theaters and restaurants, it will be at something like 25% capacity. Then bumped up when the numbers indicate it's appropriate.

By re-opening in stages based on what the numbers are showing it would also help against a 2nd wave because things can be held at that stage for longer if necessary or even stepped back a little if the numbers show that to be necessary.

How many states actually followed the suggested guidelines for the 3 stages of re-opening?
None that I saw, or did I miss something?

California has been doing it correctly, and it shows.

My optimism was fueled by being in a state that is handling this very well. Once more I underestimated the stupidity of the rubes.

But again I think people would be approaching this differently if we were all on the same page. I get that's hard to do in a country this large but the information available should be consistent. Instead we have people trying to create their own narrative. Which misleads people.

Again from my perspective our governor said it well

"Doing this is a risk (reopening) but doing nothing is also a big risk"

There are two sides to the coin here

People aren’t patient enough to social distance for more than a few weeks.

My wife and I agreed on some very specific rules for our family and our kids when this all started. And they went well for about 2 weeks. Then she gradually started easing up and allowing our kids to do things we had agreed they shouldn’t. Now they are doing play dates every day with the neighbors.

Covid hasn’t hit our area much at all and we live in an isolated community. So it is probably safe which is why I haven’t made a big deal about it. But still. Most People don’t have the discipline to stick with this.

If you haven’t noticed, the information that was coming to us from the science experts, has been shut down.

I understand it isn’t the science experts job to worry about the economy but it is pretty evident that Trump doesn’t want people to hear the science related opinions any more.

Yup, I know we can't stay at home much (any) longer; the economy needs to get going fora lot of people. I just don't trust most people to be responsible enough. My family is at very low risk, fortunately, but anyone can put others at risk. I've seen many thinking they are doing the right thing, but wearing a mask covering only their mouth and under their nose.
As you say, there are two sides to every coin, but I don't want people's lives risked on a coin flip.

Yep. That's part of what I was referencing.

If he'd had any guts and bet me I'd be sweating it for sure. Whether I'm right or not depends on how long the bet would have gone and if we keep getting the trend we want (lately the figures have really improved)

But yeah it now could easily get there, which is sad. I was too optimistic.
You were optimistic, I was pessimistic.

We will likely meet somewhere in the middle.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with hoping for the best, just as long as you are smart enough to plan for the worst.

Unless the summer drops the bottom of the spread of this thing (which may not necessarily be a totally good thing) this is going to go on for a very long time without a vaccine. And even then it may not totally eliminate it. Conversely we haven't seen the overran hospitals in most areas that were predicted at its onset. As you say the truth is in the middle.

The other thing that will be important, imo, is how things are handled if there is a 2nd spike in hospitalizations and deaths.

The temptation would likely be to reset back to square 1. Hopefully, they'd decide to just stop and hold where we are for a week or 2 longer and see where it goes.
Yes.

I'm okay with loosening restrictions in some areas.

But, I won't be rolling the dice going out to eat or to the movies, gym anytime soon.

Outside of the grocery store, I'm staying put for the next few weeks.

I was a little startled by behaviors I also witnessed and that's the issue with such a large disinformation effort that's taking place.
I mean, what do you expect when the Nations Leaders are running around with no masks and they have members of their staff that are infected?

I am not aboard the Bash the Trump Administration for every little thing tour bus.

But, Pence not wearing a mask at the Fucking Mayo clinic is a really bad look now that we know his people, some secret service men have the virus.

If they don't take it seriously, why should their constituents?

I think we avoided it with the mandatory stay at home order.

Which is why I'm concerned that rushing back to open will undue all that progress.

I would think yesterday is the right time to release it
You would think....but have a strong feeling we'll learn (or maybe wont learn) a number of things have taken place in this pandemic that did not go down as we'd have thought they should.
