I noticed that too. 9:57 played, on the ice for 4 goals against. You think the Pens, with their last change advantage, didn't exploit the fact that he couldn't keep up? They scored on almost 25% of his shifts.

Yes, I'm sure they try to exploit this, but we also are the best faceoff team in the Nhl, so more times than not we should be able to win the faceoff and then get our 3rd or 4th line off the ice against Criesby.

I'm sort of wondering why Couturier only took 5 faceoffs the whole night. He's one of the best going right now.

Was curious about when in the shift they were scored, so I was already working on this when I saw your post haha

They scored:
:45 seconds in to his shift.
:35 seconds in to his shift.
:45 seconds in to his shift.
:06 seconds in to his shift. (previous faceoff was 3 minutes or so before the GA)

So all from the run of play. So they didn't really take advantage of the last change to get it done. But at the same time, none of the GA were flukes where Stewart really had no chance at making an impact. You could argue the last one, but if you watch the replay, he's standing at the blueline hoping the defense/Vorobyov win the battle and he can help an outlet. I wouldn't lay the blame on Stewart for this one, Vorobyov did nothing to defend Kahun in the slot. But the fact remains, the Pens scored on 4/18 shifts for Stewart. That is very bad.

And I would add, the first 3 goals came at what should have been the end of shift, or later. So he got stuck out there most likely, and the Pens were able to complete a change to take advantage. If you have guys that can skate, at least in those situations they have a chance. Stewart has no chance at keeping up with the speed of the Pens at the end of his shift. It's almost an auto-goal.

Thought Coots had one of his worst games last night. Offensively and Defensively. It seemed that he was consistently out of position. That's just the eye test....

Also, not trying to defend anyone last night. They ALL sucked. Every single one of them. Just agreeing with the fact that Stewart should not be skating against Crosby and probably should not be in the lineup at all.

Idk about this. Couturier is a stud at the end of the day, I know that.

162 games played, 152 points and +36 combined in his last two seasons.

I will agree with this and he usually plays his best hockey vs the Pens

I would bench Stewart asap if he's not going to fight, hit everything that moves or provide something, anything that sparks the team when needed. That's pretty much his one job and it's not being done right now.

And yes, this was a team loss and there's plenty of blame to go around, we're just picking the low-hanging fruit right now.

I think our strategy last night was to send two guys to Criesby, then have three guys just be decoy defenders that lie in the weeds and cover nobody.

Picture two of our guys standing on the ice while Criesby is resting nearby on the bench...Lol

I personally think Vorobyev is the low hanging fruit. He doesnt even contribute toughness. I would send him down and bring Twarinski back to the team

This is what threw me off as well. The most consistent player we have, and he always seems particularly good against the team from Western Pennsylvania.

... as all on this board have said... last night was a total meltdown

Moving on to the Devils.

Playing a last place devils team should cure our woes of the last periods.

Let's hope so. Nothing pisses me off more, or makes me more depressed, than getting blown out by the Pens.

Vorobyov has not impressed. I agree with that. We bashed Stewart before, but Vorobyov was on the ice for those goals against too, and at least 1 of them he was directly responsible. I fully support sending him down.

With Laughton and Patrick both out, all the effort to have strong depth down the middle is gone. Now even with Giroux back at C, they still don't have a 4C worth a damn. :mad2:
