To be fair, the idea is that the kids maintain a lifestyle similar to that which they'd have if the parents were still together.

The problem is, I don't think there's much, if any, oversight to ensure the bulk of that money is being spent on the kids.

So, in your example from your earlier post about the baby mama going on trips, etc. If the kids are going along on the trips...no prob. But who is making sure that baby mama isn't leaving the kids in someone else's care while she goes on trips?

BOOM.

I had a friend whom (love the guy to death, but was a complete idiot) that was a good dad and treated his baby mama great. This was during my time in the Marine Corps. He'd go to her house every weekend and see his kid which was an hour away (29 Palms to East LA). He'd buy groceries and also sorts of other shit on the weekend (which came out to about $800 per month).

She had a wild idea to take him to court for back payments on child support. The problem on his end was that he didn't keep a paper trail or any receipts. So to the courts, it looked like he didn't pay her a dime.

For 6 months, he had 80% of his pay taken from his check and he had to return his car because he couldn't afford the payments or even gas to go drive an hour to see his kid. It worked itself out though as when he went to take her back to court, it was founded that she took a trip to the Bahamas or some shit and left the kid with her mom. The judge lowered the child support and said the slate's clean even though he had a couple of grand left in back payments.

Oddly enough, 10 years later, dude and the baby mama are married. So yeah.....that's awkward.
yah he def. fucked himself by dealing in cash. Always establish a paper trail. You have to always be cognizant of how something will play in court if you are dealing with someone that is deceitful.

I probably should have been more clear. I think he's the most likely to leave because I think he's the most expendable of the Big 4.

Plus, while he said he would take less, he didn't say how much less he'd take and we don't know how much less the Warriors will need him to take.

If, for example, he's willing to take a $5 million cut per year....what happens if the Warriors need him to take a bigger cut?
I think he's the most likely to be traded.

But, he won't leave on his own.

They can pay him next Summer and then wait to see what Dray wants the following year.

They don't have to make a choice until it's time to pay Green.

If Klay takes a good discount, terrific.

But, even if he doesn't, having him under a long-term deal ups his trade value.

They wouldn't have any problems moving him if healthy.

Cavs have 31....

So I win my bet with @lebron23james.....

I hink they win 45-50 games.
if the Lakers win 45 games and only improve 10 games from last year with LEBron there should not be one person on the coaching staff or in the front office that is brought back for year 2.

Lol....

He will have to settle for Lebron's consecutive Finals streak to go up in smoke.

I don't know. Call me crazy. Actually unsober's a better word to use. But right now I think LeBron can carry the Lakers all the way to the Finals this year.

Over/under 10 games before LeBron kicks Luke Walton out of the huddle?

Yeah, they gave her 9 % of his pay.

For a regular person, not that big a thing.

But, when you make 31 million a year, that Shit adds up...lol

His biggest issue will be life after basketball.

270 k a month is nothing right now.

But, Blake won't be getting anywhere near that much on his next deal....

Hell, as injury prone as he is, there might not be a next contract.

In 5 years, when this deal is up, his kids will still be in elementary school.

So, He will still have another decade of child support.
But, that's when he can have that order of support modified to match his earnings. It is a way that some women get over - I can guarantee that she's not going to be working with that support in effect.

I had told him the same shit. He said that him and his baby mama went through a lot and she would never fuck him over.

I'm more of a pessimist and assume that deep down, someone's trying to fuck me over. I also grew up in Miami where women are more cut throat. He hadn't dealt with that before.

If he has a halfway decent financial advisor.....he should be fine.

He makes a lot playing in the NBA but he has to make an awful lot through his endorsements as well.

Yea, he said he would take 3 -4 mil less but couldn't afford to leave as much on the table as KD has lol. And that's understandable, which is why the scenario of him being traded makes the most sense to me.

I deal with IRS stuff all the time where we try and substantiate someone's expenses and they say "Oh yah I pay XXX amount in rent amonth"....I ask for the documents and they are like "well i live with my grandma and I pay her cash".....

well...good luck.

It really depends on how good your lawyer is.

I remember watching the Broke documentation (30 for 30). They had a lawyer that said that some of these athletes should've gone to see him because you can get that reduced, especially if it impacts you significantly (I think this pertained more to NFL athletes who don't make nearly as much as NBA athletes do).

But I stand by that the current system is beyond flawed. That's why I praise athletes like Klay whom seem to sleep around and not have kids.
It definitely is different when the money is guaranteed. It's just like the difference of normal pay vs. overtime for everyday folks. They can't actually count that overtime since that can change & why they have modification as a result.

There are also other factors. Such as if he has any other kids, if they were married (in know in this case they weren't), if she earns an income & if so how much she makes and so on. It's really a shame that some women are this greedy though. They purposely go through the system to get the max vs. working with the man to come to an agreed amount that is fair to both sides.

These men need to find the lawyer that can get these women to agree outside of court or using a mediator at the very least. Keep the courts out of your pocket. I don't know how these guys just keep getting these girls pregnant though. If I was a man I probably wouldn't have any kids for that reason alone.

Has anyone heard this Donovan Mitchell story yet?

So he was in an Apple store in Salt Lake & some guys brother starts a conversation w/ him not realizing who Mitchell was. After a few minutes the guy w/ the broken phone found out how expensive it was to fix his phone & couldn't afford it. Mitchell overheard the conversation & paid for the guys phone.

It's funny that you think Klay is most likely to leave when he's in fact the only one that's said he'll take less money to stay lol.

Regarding KD, I agree with you. Again, there just isn't a better situation out there that can give him what he already has - and then some. He's happy with his teammates & the organization. He's winning AND doing so in a shared environment. I just don't think it gets any better than that.

My projection of KD leaving is a cumulative effect of all the bad press and online ridicule for taking the easy way out. I think he wants to prove himself outside of the ideal situation. Winning every year with Golden State isn't going to get rid of that; in fact, it probably will intensify it to some degree.

There's a very easy solution; wrap it. Will save you some trips to the clinic too.

And it isn't reported as income by the momma. So it isn't taxable.

That's because the daddy done already paid the taxes on that money before she got it.

The biggest problem with how child support is determined, imo, is that it's typically based strictly on a percentage of what the person paying it makes, without regard to any other bills they may have. At least that was my experience.
EXACTLY

The only thing they do take into consideration is if you have other kids to support.
