LeBron has frowned upon playing the 4 in the past.

Takes away his size, strength advantages.

That's why I would have kept Randle, in a perfect world.

Randle at 4, Bron at 3, Ingram at Sg......

Kcp playing overseas...lol

Luke's system will change the way 4's play

Clearly there was some bad blood with Randle and/or his agent. No WAY they should have let him go for 9 million a year.
I think you are correct.

From what I read, It started with Deangelo getting traded.

He and Randle share the same agent.

I'm keeping the number at a firm 52.

That's with this current roster, which I doubt will stay the same.

I don't see Javale being the starter. They're going to bring a starting center in. So IMO they improved that position by replacing Thomas Bryant with him.

They replaced the backup PG with Rondo (for sake of argument lets say Ball starts) in place of Tyler Ennis. One hell of an improvement.

Then they added Lance who is essentially going to replace Travis Wear. Another improvement.

Lost Randle but gained Lebron. No contest.

Then keep in mind the young guys are going to improve from last year.

Last year they had 35 wins. Had players not significantly been injured that number could have been 40-42.

So a healthy team this season, with the additions and improvements could easily top 50 wins.

First of all, you keep saying that the Lakers are going to bring in another center? HOW are they going to do that? They don't have any cap space and no one is going to take Deng's contract without exacting a king's ransom. So how exactly do you propose the Lakers are going to get a center? Lopez is going to sign for the league minimum?

Randle was always going to be gone so that the Lakers could clear the cap space for 2 max deals.

No point in keeping him around like a guy on a "make good deal" when he's not part of the future anyway.

Luke's system will change the way 4's play
What does that mean?

Is he scrapping the Warriors offense?

The way PF's play is not the issue.

The way they have to defend is.

Kuz at the 4 is the best option....

You don't want to wear LeBron down by having him defend guys that are just as big and strong as he is.

True.

But, KD also played with Dray and Ibaka, who are capable of guarding 4's and 5's.

LeBron is big enough to do that for the Lakers.

He would probably prefer not to though...

They could have used a guy like Jeff Fools Gold Green or Derek Favors.
Favors for sure - Smart is currently available. lol

The Lakers have $5m left WITHOUT stretching Deng. Plus he's already said he wouldn't mind taking a pay cut.

This is where I got it from:

Lakers Free Agency Rumors: Brook Lopez A 'Good Bet' To Re-Sign Following LeBron James Signing

Report: Brook Lopez could return to Lakers

Nerlens Noel, Brook Lopez among Lakers remaining targets per reports

I said that wrong.

What I meant was the way he played the 4 in the past is not the way he'd be playing the 4 under Luke

They should take a flyer on a guy like Alex Len.

Did Monroe sign?

Do you think it is possible they are trying to get the young kids ready for the big time by seeing how those guys play?

That is exactly what they are doing, imo. The Lakers wanted some guys who have some "dawg" in them to challenge the kids and hold them accountable.

They are obviously going to try to win as many games as possible (part of pressuring and challenging the kids). But this season is going to be about which of the kids are going to be with the team in the future and which ones aren't.

So, you really think they want to play him at the 4?

I don't know...

The reason LeBron is almost impossible to deal with is because he shouldn't have that skill set at the size that he is.

That helps him overpower the smaller wings that he can't just go around.

I will say, most 4's would be on skates trying to deal with him on the perimeter.

I could and have no issue with it. He played well for them last year and was good with the kids. He earned another 1 year, imo.

Plus, he is repped by Klutch. Part of the reason he was signed in the first place was so the Lakers could start developing a relationship with Lebron.
