Of course he picks the smallest/weakest guy on the court...fake tough guy.
IT's problems go beyond his injury. The Celtics weren't going to max him out regardless of that injury; it just helped them save face (and Kyrie's tantrum gave them an easy out). You can't spend that much cap space on a miniature scorer that is an absolutely awful defender. No matter how good offensively he may be, he will always be a wash altogether at best.
Just like Boogie, his injury wasn't the only issue at hand when trying to get a contract.
My point was he may have rushed back......and I bet Leonard saw that and said that ain't happening to me.
Someone was going to give IT a max contract. At least 1/3 of the NBA has zero idea what they're doing and someone would've given IT north of a $100 mil. Playing through the injury though cost him.

Exactly. I agree with shopson that IT probably wasn't going to get a max deal (at least not from the Celtics) but he was going to get a helluva fat raise.
You may well be right about Kawhi. He had 219 million reasons to not rush back. lol
And yet it appears he is willing to give up nearly 100 million dollars so he could leave the Spurs.
I don't think that was his initial plan though. I don't think it was until whatever the hell has happened to break their relationship that he decided to give up all of that money.
I agree.
I also think that he is getting really really bad advice from Uncle Dennis and the rest of his posse.
Yep, and as much as I love Kawhi and want him on the Lakers, his Uncle makes me a little wary of trading for him. The Lakers already have a crazy family member to deal with.
Woj says that Lebron being a Laker makes it less likely that Kawhi goes to the Clippers because he doesn't want to compete head to head vs. Lebron in the same city.
But an SA reporter says that it's less likely that he wants to go to the Lakers because he doesn't want to be 2nd fiddle to Lebron.
If Woj is right, then okay, you trade for him.
But if the SA reporter is right, you may very well end up giving up some young talent that could have been developed or used in another trade for a 1 year rental.
And that after supposedly being the 1 team that didn't have to worry about him being a 1 year rental.

"ESPN Sources with @royceyoung: Oklahoma City, Carmelo Anthony will part ways this summer, likely saving team over $100M. Thunder working with 'Melo's reps on exits that include trade, stretch provision."

Surprising nobody.
