But did they tank on purpose like Philly did or were they just shitty? A team can get the #1 pick without intentionally trying to.

Philly is kind of the inventor of being shitty on purpose for years. They even gave it a name (The Process)
of course they tanked on purpose--- when you sit guys out with minor injuries like theydid with Kyrie and Waiters all the time--- when you rent out your cap space to get picks like the Cavs did in multiple transactions, when you hire Byron Scott (haha) to be your coach- you are tanking. No question.

You dont take back contracts like Baron Davis and Luke Walton and trade away vets and preserve cap space if you are trying to win.

They definitely tanked on purpose for LBJ - Cleveland's top scorers in 01-02 were Lamond Murray and Andre Miller and neither was on the team the next season.

With Kyrie, they kinda were forced into tanking by Lebron left but it wasn't like they went out and tried to replace that James-sized hole in the lineup in any meaningful way.

Yep and not many teams is willing to deal with that process....and if this process doesn't eventually turn into a title for Embiid and Simmons, was it really worth it?

I would say Seattle/OKC was the inventor and Philly just took it to an absurd level.

Seattle/OKC was really the first team to rent out cap space for future picks, take back bad money, go for multiple high lotto picks and putting off bringing in any veteran help so they could continue to lose.

I guess my point is that tanking isn't such an obvious way to win titles. Cleveland got one, barely, a long time after they tanked to get LeBron

And no title for them although they got close.

The guys nuts you've had in your mouth for years (LeBron) is a Yankess fan. Funny how you never had an issue w/ that though. You nonstop loudmouth hypocrite.

And the only joke around here is you.
if you went into a bar around the arena district in dtown Cleveland and said you were a Cleveland fan, but then said you were a Celtics fan, you would either get laughed at, or punched in the face, or probably both.

There are plenty of examples in other sports. Basketball is just unique for so many different reasons that comparisons aren't really fair. Shit, every hockey team that's won a title since 2009 got where they were by tanking at some point up to and including the current champs. The CUBS won their first World Series in over a century by tanking!

But an argument can definitely be made that it doesn't have the same certainty of success in basketball. If there's a uniqueness to this sport, it's that free agency can be used to win a title much more effectively than tanking. They're definitely an outlier in that regard.

There are alotta Steelers fans that live in & around Cleveland. You telling me they don't go to bars wearing their Steelers gear? If that's what you're saying you're lying.

if you gave Cleveand fans the choice between Baker and LeBron 9 out of 10 take baker- maybe more. It would not even be a contest.

Only because they know they have no shot at Lebron and already have Baker. That's a huge non-choice of a choice, lol.

Right now the answer's Mahomes & it's not even close. But he had the advantage of being on the Chiefs sideline (and film room) his rookie year before he was named the starter. Mayfield was thrown into a dysfunctional situation as a rookie.

...and will be in a dysfunctional situation for his entire Browns career. It comes with the territory.

So you're saying a team can't turn things around? Interesting. How did the Saints & the Bucs each win a S.B. then?

The Bucs traded for a coach and ended up facing his old team who didn't change the play calls (of course, the ever thoughtful Raiders). They crumbled soon afterwards.

The Saints brought in a new coach and veteran (and future HOFer) QB at the same time and got to the superbowl after their 4th season together. Are you implying the Browns have their coach for the next 4 years already in place (or a future HOF QB)?

I'm not implying anything. You said Mayfield will be in a dysfunctional situation his entire career. Comment # 10750. I gave you 2 examples of dysfunctional teams that turned their fortunes around.

You're the one saying the Browns will never (and never's a very long time) turn things around.
