if you think someone is taking Tim Hardaway or Alan Crabbe for a 2nd rounder i just dont know what to say.
Just think about it logically--- Hardaway, AFTER htis year still has like 36M left on his deal- you can buy a 2nd round pick for like 2-3M. at the TOP of the 2nd round.
We've talked about this in the past. Teams aren't as keen on salary dump deal as they were in the past. Thus expiring contracts aren't as valuable as they were in the past.
The Lakers dumped Mozgov. It cost them D'angelo Russell but they got Brook Lopez AND Kyle Kuzma in return.
I have a hard time seeing Sean Marks being willing to give up a lottery pick given that the Nets haven't had their 1st round pick in 4 years.
Tim Hardaway is overpaid. But it's not like he's Lu Deng. He's scoring 22 ppg. There are plenty of teams that would find him useful. Crabbe has one year left on his contract after this year. There are PLENTY of teams that would take him on for one year even at 18 million a year. Suggesting that they would need to give up a lottery pick to get rid of him is not realistic. Hell they could stretch him if they wanted to. But Crabbe is also a useful player, albeit at too high a price.
In order to take a player like Crabbe or Hardaway or GAllo- the price is AT LEAST a mid first rounder--- as i said- the Lakers had to trade Russell to get off of Mozgov--- the Clips had to trade a lotto pick to get off Davis---- the Kings had to trade a lotto pick to get off of Thompson/Landry.
Just think about Luol Deng with the Lakers- they were begging teams to take him and no one would- it costs a LOT more than a 2nd rounder or two to get off of that salary
shit dude- the Cavs just got 2 2nd rounders for ancient Kyle Korver. If the Clips tried to get off of Gallo it would be AT LEAST SGA and prob more.
Deng was playing NBA2K for the Lakers. He had NO value so the Lakers were literally looking to dump pure salary there.
Gallo's contract is pretty bad but, again, it has one year left. If the Clippers traded SGA away just to get out from under that contract, Winger would be run out of town.
Perhaps, if one of those teams thought they had a very real chance of getting a 2nd max player, they would trade a protected 1st. But no way are the Knicks dumping Knox or the Clips dumping SGA. Just not happening.
