And it's equally true that living in resentment is a bad way for an individual to live their life.

It's not an either/or... it's a both/and.

Yes, the past still affects us.

Now what?
It's a bad way.

But, it's human.

Invalidating the feelings of people on either side builds walls, not bridges.

I completely agree. Individuals shouldn't spend their time living in resentment. It is self-destructive.

But it doesn't change the impact that the past has on today.

I don't necessarily disagree.

However: I acknowledged that the past affects us. How does that "invalidate" anything?

I'm not being glib, either... the past definitely affects us. I would never suggest otherwise.

Follow the post trail.

Since you chose to comment on it, I assumed you were aware of the crux of the argument.

I'm not going to rehash the entire conversation...

But, it was stated that people who weren't alive when those atrocities happened should move on because those demographics are in a better place BECAUSE they happened.

Um....no.

You don't use it as a crutch or weapon.

But, you don't have to stop talking about it because it makes people feel uncomfortable.

Only to you. Everyone here knows exactly what he meant by his statement.

But you try to twist his words and make them mean something they don't to try to "win" your argument on a technicality instead of actually talking about the point in the first place. It is absolutely pathetic.
please explain what "significant picks" means then.

I suggested the Sixers first rounder- which will be one of the worst in the league

that is certainly not a SIGNIFICANT pick and it is certainly not- multiple "significant picks"

this is the same bullshit you tried with "seriously targeting" - your bullshit was wrong and hyperbolic- just like his- and then you whine and cry and try and squirm out of it when i call you out.

moral of the story- choose your words wisely if you dnt want to be called out for bullshit.--- and then to have the audacity to say I am twisting directly quoted words is even more hilarious

I am not going to do that. Because the meaning is obvious. And the multiple picks part is because he mentioned 2 players.

Here is why I have little respect for you. Because when you get called out, or when you are losing an argument, or when someone is making a negative (but true) comment about your team, you ALWAYS use one of the following options:

1) distract from the original argument by making it about semantics, instead of the actual basketball issue
2) resort to name calling and aggressive attacks against the person you disagree with
3) repeat your only semi-legitimate point over and over and over

And when you are REALLY beat you:

4) completely ignore the post
5) ghost for weeks at a time

I would respect you if you could man up and admit you were wrong like all the good posters here do. But instead you use Saul Goodman level showmanship to try to win by any means necessary. And you are often wrong because of the hills you choose to die on.

@WiggyRuss

I dare you to prove me wrong. Admit you were wrong about JaVale McGee.

I bet you won't.

At least he didn't say late 20s

I would love to see Kyrie go to Brooklyn. That would make me quite happy.

No.

Not Thanksgiving.

But, probably Columbus Day.

I don't mean to speak for any Native Americans.

The one guy that I know says he doesn't give a rat's ass about the Mascot thing.

But, Columbus day is a insult.

Yeah to be 26 and already talking about retirement in this sport is concerning and makes me kinda question his love for the game

I don't.

I don't think anyone outside of that Community even gives it a second thought.

That wasn't the point I took umbrage with.

To say people should just shut up about major atrocities in history because that demographic is better off today because it happened, is vile and disgusting.

The victims of 9/11 got like a 38 BILLION dollar settlement.

You think those children who were born after that event feel like living a comfortable life was a great trade-off for having a building fall on their loved ones?

Because according to @thunderc , since they were not alive when it happened and they profited, they should stop bitching.

Obviously, that wasn't the example that he used.

But, 9/11, slavery, the holocaust, mass school shootings etc. are all events that have no silver lining.

To suggest otherwise is truly sickening.

Agree. What's that old saying?

"Those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it".

Such events should never be forgotten. But as you pointed out, they also shouldn't be used as a crutch.

The thing with racism, imo, is that it isn't as prevalent as some claim. But it's also more prevalent than others want to believe.
