Yeah luka in the lead at the moment but the gap isnt that large
Large enough to where over 500k in roy bets have been paid out already to Luka bettors. But yea, not large.

Lukas leading the better team, and has the better numbers.

Its rookie of the year, not rookie of the 2nd half

Luka will win, but Trae made it closer in the 2nd half. If Bagley had been playing 30mpg all season he might have been in the mix but his future still looks good.
Agree.

It's Simmons vs. Spida 2.0

One guy has been consistent and steady the whole year.

BUT, the other was spectacular the 2nd half of the Season.

It will likely be a landslide vote like with Simmons.

But, some voters will be legitimately torn.

Probably arguing semantics here.

The gap is large enough that there is:

A: nothing Young can do over the last 2 weeks to close it
B: voting will be near unanimous

But Young should defintely finish 2nd because of his great 2nd half.

Exactly.

But you also had the rookie controversy with Simmons that probably did cost him a few votes. That doesn't exist here.

I hate that it seems like I have been Trae Young bashing all day. He has been really good and the Hawks should feel thrilled to have him.

But he hasn't had as dynamic a rookie season as Luka and he didn't have as good a rookie season as Curry. And that is okay. Still puts him in great company the fact that his name even gets mentioned in those comps.

But let's not get carried away people.

Sucks about Nurkic.
I Feel bad for the dude, and for the Blazers.
Terrible looking injury.

Enes Kanter is gonna have his work cut out, but he's more than able.

Signing Kanter looks crucial though. They can probably still win a series with Kanter at C once CJ comes back as well.

Always hurt to see a guy suffer a season ender this freaking late in the year especially when his team is playoffs bound.

Too many of these injuries take place now.

This is like the 4th nasty injury in the last 2 years

The media loves them some Trey Young tho. Crazy that those 2 guys were traded for each other.

kyrie not playing in cleveland again....has not played in cleveland but the one opening night game hayward busted his leg.

"load management"

load in his pants more like it
No doubt....rest when he has days off before and after the game? He doesn't want to be booed. Shame as the Cs could use the game....and hurts our chances to "win" by losing.

Like I said.

They are all very imperfect. And because Klay always guards the best and Reddick gets hidden on the worst offensive player, their is no way to measure it accurately.

Also why I didn't go into too much detail to avoid this conversation.

But Curry was somewhat near league average defender (probably slightly below) and Young is one of the worst in the NBA.
I see. Redick is hidden. You thinking Curry, especially as a rookie, was exposed on D and not hidden?

Are you just messing with me?

Coaching kids is an admirable thing......only a supreme douche-bag/asshole would mock that.
somewhat fair point, but to be fair I coach kids and still play basketball at least once a week and would not base my ability to judge NBA players on defense on my coaching/playing.

JJ is 8th? in what world. Kyrie is ahead of Klay. A lot of great defensive players at the top but then you see some head scratchers. Not one stat is perfect though
Exactly.....which is why it is so tough to gauge defense.

You are not doing this, but so many will bring up these metrics when they help, but then make excuses when they don't (Klay guards better players than Redick, for instance).

Defense is all about scheme, too, and we cannot be sure where these players are supposed to be. I would bet Klay is a better defender than Love, but would also bet Love knows what he is supposed to do on D and is less out of position than many "better" defenders might be.

First off, Luka defintely has the hype advantage. And that matters.

But, the numbers are on his side also.

Luka = 21, 7.6, 5.8 on 42.6% with a PER of 19.4 and 4.6 win shares
Young = 18.7, 3.6 7.9 on 41.7% with a PER of 16.3 and 2.5 win shares

If Trae's numbers were a lot better or the Hawks had more wins he might have a shot. But his numbers are worse and the Mavs have more wins in the tougher conference.

This is an open and shut case.
Just wanted to point out as rookies Curry and Young have identical PER at 16.3.

You really love absolutes don't you?
