Of course they would probably laugh at it but they are desperate to get payroll below 90M and they would look at the payroll dump of around 11 to 12M the fact the Odor is much cheaper than Gordon over the next years, DeShields is a much cheaper Offer than Yelich is going to be and the pitching and positional players that the rest gives them. If they can't unload Stanton they will be looking at plan B which is at least 2 of Yelich, Ozuna and Gordon
I don't know if they are desperate, but if they do decide to trade someone like those you mentioned there will be teams with a lot better farm systems than ours willing to provide some very good upper level pitching in trade.

HaHa. Let's get set in the rotation, the bullpen and up the middle positionally and then we can worry about the bench. I do want a good bench, but I think that usually comes after you get the other things sorted out. Then we can find a couple of modern day Catalanottos.

Well you may have a pin to here and thinking bench was a bit far down the list. Astros utilized bench well and Marisnek who did not play is superior to any of our OF defensively. Yeah a good bench can not likely happen with a good starting 9

Rangers continue to pursue Shohei Ohtani

The Rangers have been preparing for this since they tried to sign Ohtani out of high school. They have long established a strong presence in Japan through top scouts Joe Furukawa and Hajime Watabe, and assistant general managers Josh Boyd and Mike Daly. Daniels has made multiple trips to Japan.

"It's a process that we are years into, not days or weeks or months," Daniels said. "This is a player that has interested us at a high level for an extended period of time. This is not something that just came about."

how about Choo + 30M to the Yankees for a couple of prospects?
how about Profar to San Diego or Cincinnati for a couple of prospects?
how about Odor, DeShields and a package of Martinez, Blackburn, Gardewire and prospects to Miami for Yelich and Gordon?
of course these are totally off the wall suggestions and are just spitballing worth nothing

1. Why would they do that, he serves no purpose for them
2. Ok, maybe
3. Even more absurd than #1...

Don't see anyone the Rangers might gamble on but who knows

Mark Appel and Kohl Stewart... Moreso Stewart than Appel

Talented arms that can't seem to put it together, Stewart seems to be natural growing pains of a young pitcher and a knee injury last season, would definitely take a flier on him if available

Like I said they aren't anything but afternoon rambling without any chance of them happening

So you would carry them on the 25-man roster that already has enough problems

I would. If he is injured you DL him and if not you put him in the BP to get through the first year. He's not a flyball guy so we could use him.

we just don't have the room to do that unless we decide right now to go ahead and tank the upcoming season. right now we have Bush, Claudio, Diekman, Kela and possibly Rodrigues penciled into the pen. we could possibly bring back Barnette and we may sign a real closer(nothing against Claudio he did a yeoman job last year) or we could bring one of them in and sit him at the end of the pen bench use him occasionally

I like both of them and Pentecost if he is healthy. Is Appel a true rule 5 guy? May need to check. Probably can get only one of these 3 if available.

May be a Colby Lewis in that mix. Never know. Roll the dice.

Everyone passed on Appel and he is out righted. He was not rule 5 eligible and not even worth a 40 man spot to MLB. Maybe he can get it together

It seems he is according to the story I linked to earlier.

Mark Appel, RHP, Phillies: The No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 Draft was just designated for assignment and no one claimed him, so seeing him go in the Rule 5 Draft might be a long shot, but stranger things have happened. He battled injury in 2017, but a team could try to catch lightning in a bottle.

if I'm not mistaken, tomorrow is when Ohtani will officially be posted, then he has 30 (or 21 possibly) days to negotiate.

You may be right re rule 5 but point is we could have had him on waiver claim without adding him to 25 man roster and see if he clears rule 5 or play the waiver game. Sure he has been scouted heavily
