They have a definite plan.....when they were hired I was excited because it was Magic but a little unsure because he had no FO experience......

Same.

I didn't have the concern that some others expressed that Magic would treat it kind of like the Dodgers where it's more of a hobby and his attention would be divided between the Lakers and his other endeavors. Magic loves/is the Lakers, so I figured they'd get his full attention.

However, like many others, I was concerned about the lack of experience and the fact that they didn't bring in anyone with experience to act in an advisory role. So far, no complaints.

I think Magic is gonna put on a full court press and court James and PG hardcore. That's the goal....as good a run as Kupcake did have, he doesn't have the star power Magic does.....obviously.

Yeah, I think 2 things hurt Mitch.

1.) Short Buss insisted on being in the middle of everything rather than just getting the hell out of the way and letting Mitch do his job. Unfortunately, Short Buss' "I'll step down if the team isn't a contender in 3 years" proclamation got hung around Mitch's neck too.

2.) He was too stuck in the old way of doing things. I was really hoping that Jeanie would cut Short Buss loose, but would keep Mitch. Then I heard where a couple of players agents were saying that he was the only GM who waited until literally midnight at the start of FA to contact anyone. Right or wrong, that's just not how things are done anymore. So the Lakers were starting every FA period playing catch up.

That second one was where I thought that Mitch probably needed to go too. Although I was kind of hoping they'd find something for him within the organization.

Having Magic as a frontman definitely helps. He still carries a lot of weight with players. However, that just gets them taken seriously by FA's again. They still aren't going to get anyone if they don't present a viable plan. Fortunately, it looks like they have one.

It is an Interesting case study.

Star power absolutely matters and is helpful, but more so at the beginning of a front office career. Players will be attracted to Magic early on, but after the initial excitement dies down, he will be evaluated based on his results.

I don't see anybody saying they want to play for Charlotte because of MJ, and that is because he has proven to be a mediocre owner.

In other words, Magic need some to make a splash next summer to cash in on the mistique. The result will take care of itself if he is able to do that.

I think Mitch will just retire.....I don't see him moving his family.....he's only 63 but he strikes me as the type who has invested his $ wisely.

True. Thankfully, this is the start.....and James has said he'd like to be an owner.....what better way to finish his career with the Lakers and pick Magic's brain almost daily. James wants to be a businessman after basketball and nobody can argue Magic isn't a businessman......he's been great.

Not sure if I like Kobe eventually having a role but Ryan West needs to be promoted....

Yeah, Ryan West definitely should be promoted. As for Kobe, depends on the role they would have him in.

Ryan West could leave to join the Clippers with his dad.....I'd stay with the Lakers and be my own man.

Interesting comparison....MJ's got a rep as an asshole and Magic has a rep of a pretty likeable and nice guy with a great personality.....

Damn straight. Gimme a 1/3 - 1/2lb burger, one thick patty. I shouldn't need to stack 3 patties to make a real burger lol. Those Snap patties aren't much bigger than McDonalds 1/10lb standard patties, and then you only get lettuce, onion and their approximation of In-N-Out's sauce. Smash burger recently opened up locally as well, haven't been there yet.

Mecca, been missing Fuddruckers lol. Closest one to me was in the Buffalo area, but that closed. Again, make it my way!

used to have one out here in Torrance, Cali right on Pacific Coast Highway, but that one's gone with the wind, too...

That is a good point. Magic certainly does not lack charisma.

Thing with Magic is for me, right from the start I felt comfortable because I always assumed that he was just there to be Magic, and to be the figurehead...but I can't lie, I was a bit nervous when he was taking calls before the trade deadline.

Ultimately as for free agents, as we've continously been saying for like the past 3 years or so, they wouldn't come until our young guys made something out of themselves. Also, as we've been saying, things would turn around eventually...and as the leader of the "Tank For Wiggins" movement, it feels pretty good to see that the organization/team is at the least on a slight upswing
