I haven't watched any of the combine, but I'm certainly following the results...Sat the QBs, WRs and TEs were on the field. Probably not in round 2 or 3, but I'm still thinking the Steelers might invest in a seam busting type player at TE.

Another SEC kid I like.

NFL Events: Combine Player Profiles - Evan Engram

QBs

I'm also on record liking a dual threat guy as a QB3 potential 2...I wouldn't expect him to beat out Landry this yr, but I like Joshua Dobbs, TN...has NFL talent, smart kid should be able to pick up NFL OFCs.

The other one I like...Nathan Peterman, PIT...haven't seen much of him, but I'm sure the Steelers have as he's a PITT kid, graduated in 3 yrs, so obviously he's pretty smart as well.

Finally...Davis Webb, CAL...he has the prototypical size you want in a NFL starting QB. Scouts like his passing ability...also smart kid, should be able to pick up the NFL game as well...he might go fairly high...2nd/3rd rd maybe.
Haven't been watchin the combine either, but like you keepin my eyes on the results. IIRC, the Engram kid almost ran a 4.3! Ridiculous speed for a TE.

QBs... Steelers reportedly met with Mahomes (Texas Tech) & Rush (CMU).

Lost in the busy week...

Steelers place original round tender on Ross Cockrell

4th Rd tender placed on Cockrell. Concerned about this move. There should be a good amount of teams willing to part with a 4th Rd pick for a starter of his caliber. Steelers can still match any offer though. One saving grace on this tender is the fact that this year's CB draft class is deep. And the low tender will set the price tag low for the Steelers should nobody want him.

Interesting read on Rush...smart which I like for my QB...but maybe not NFL caliber talent arm wise.

My brother-n-law is a big TT guy, alumni, etc...he's been telling me Mahomes is not the typical TT system QB. I've seen him a couple of times...definitely has an NFL arm...starter material...I think he's going in the 1st rd. Maybe the 3rd or 4th QB off the board.

TE...Evans should be a big mismatch talent...true hybrid TE, may go higher than PIT values a TE, but I like his talent.

I saw that...I've also heard PIT has interest in Dre Kirkpatrick. If that's true I think it means they feel they can upgrade the other outside CB but have control of Cockrell in case nothing develops.

Definitely... The original rd (low) tender tells us 2 things...
1) Steelers want to keep his pricetag low
2) He's upgradable

I don’t think anyone will be desperate to get Cockrell, but the low tender will definitely garner interest. He’s an average zone CB with below average ball skills. Entering his 4th year, his ceiling should no longer be viewed as optimistically high. He's a decent cover guy and somewhat trustworthy to leave on an island, but he's not going to turn into the gamechanger that everyone wants him to be.

Kirkpatrick... Posted on that in the "Around the AFCN" thread. Seems like its due-diligence should the Steelers lose out on Cockrell. I'm not a believer that he's a better CB than Cockrell. Especially not in this defensive scheme. Doesn't Cincy run more man coverage?

Updated: 2/10/17

Villanova OLB, Austin Calitro (East/West Game)
Minnesota Safety, Damarius Travis (East/West Game)
Tennessee CB, Cameron Sutton (Senior Bowl)
North Carolina WR, Ryan Switzer (Senior Bowl)
Youngstown State OLB, Derek Rivers (Senior Bowl)
Notre Dame DE/DT, Isaac Rochell (Senior Bowl)

For highlight reels not already included in this thread:

Not seein much from this kid. Struggles to shed blocks, slow to get off the ball, doesn't maintain the point of attack with consistency, and very little gap awareness... Seems like a stat-padder in a lesser FCS division.

1 & 2 are spot on with my thinking as well.

Your assessment of Cockrell's game is also on point...there are a few things I like about him...decent size, and physicality, he has a good mental make up for the position...meaning he's not going to crawl into a shell if he gets beat.

At the same time, he just doesn't have big time ball skills...on this team he's the 2nd best CB. Opposing OCs have two guys they can go after for that critical 3rd down yardage and have a better than 50% chance of making it...Gay and Cockrell...throw in ILB and that's a huge part of why the Steelers rank so poorly on 3rd down conversions allowed.

Dre'...I didn't see that but to be honest I was a little surprised to read that. They are more man than zone. He's not a top tier CB by any means, but I would rate him higher than Cockrell. Would he be more effective on this DEF...probably not.

Tuned in for a brief period of the D-Lineman day of the combine... Just in time to watch Tak McKinley's 40... Ran a 4.59. Not too shabby. Best DL time so far. At 265 he either needs to drop to 250's to be an OLB, or gain into the 290's to be a DE. Seems like a 4-3 DE at his current weight.

More combine notes...

Haason Reddick's 40... 4.52s. That kid can move. Lighter & explosive. Definitely a 1st round LB prospect. Currently listed as a DL. 36" vertical. 11'1" broad. Kid is reminiscent of Dupree's freakish athleticism, but a smaller build.

Isaac Rochell's 40... 4.89s. Definitely a bigger framed DE. Looks like a poor-man's Tuitt.

Dawuane Smoot 40... 4.77s. Seems like a slower version of McKinley.

Just read that his combine weight was 250ish. Looks like he already dropped the weight.
