I'd take Ben Verlander before K-Rod right now. K-Rod has had a great career, but age has gotten to him.

I doubt he's done. But he's clearly lost much of his natural talent.

How many losses will the next guy get before everyone realizes he shouldn't be closer?

Wilson took a loss last weekend and people think he's some savior. The bullpen is terrible. Switching out the 8th for the 9th won't really change anything. Neither would firing the manager.

I'm just glad Francisco Rodriguez has a day off today to rest. When Ausmus trots him out in the 9th the next game, his fastball may even hit 89.

It is a shame -- Detroit, with all the injuries they've dealt with, have played great. Rodriguez is just killing this team.

(1) I hope I am wrong, but he is not the closer the Tigers need.

(2) He can't do any worse.

(3) I actually think Ausmus will be a good manager, but not with this team. However, we need to look at the General Manager ... Is Avila the man for the job ... If he is, he must decide on the Manager ... If he is not, you should keep Ausmus as manager until the next General Manager is in place.

He was the Tiger closer going into the season. I never heard a complaint out of you then. Now you are trying to use him as excuse because the team isn't as good as YOU predicted. Sounds like the cry of a front-runner.

Pretty much true. According to PitchFX, his average fastball has dropped from 89.3 last year to 88.4 this year. Meanwhile, his average change-up has gone UP to 83.6. Not even close to enough separation between the two.

Karns as a starter (3.63 ERA) has been pretty decent by my estimation of things. Had a bad start in Texas but besides that he's been a pleasant addition.

Herrera has the same problem. His fastball averages 95-98 and his changeup is 90-92. And he relies on those 2 pitches, throwing a token curve 8% of the time.
