I kinda expect all three bottom teams(Mia, Wash, Mil) to tank it tonight. None of them are going to want to play the Cavs and while I'm sure they would all prefer to play Boston over Toronto, the fear of Toronto doesn't come close to fear of Lebron.

I thought there was no scenario where the Heat could play the Cavs?
I expect them to win tonight and let it play out.
If nothing else they'll get another division title.

Lose it now or lose it next year. I can't imagine the team is going to care all that much about that point. Especially when you consider the much more near term concern of playing the Cavs this weekend.

I get that, but the Bucks should be significantly better next year. I'm sure in the mind of the front office they expect to be. So the pick this year could be significantly more valuable than next year's.

Didn't someone say that if Bucks win today, they get to keep this years 1st round pick?

Yeah. Otherwise it gets kicked to next year where they get it if it falls from 4-16. After that the pick is top 7 protected. After that it is unprotected.

You are correct. Only Bucks and Pacers could play the Cavs in the 1st round at this point.

If the Heat or the Wizards get the 6 seed, they'll be playing the 76ers.

It has similar protections next year and if things don't go well they could wind up losing the 5th pick in the draft next year.

What it boils down to is that I doubt that the Bucks are really going to jockey for position based on this draft pick when doing so would give them the worst outcome in the playoffs this year.

Thats fair. I think I'm convinced.

And getting a playoff series win this year could positively impact how happy Giannis is with the Bucks, too.

Yeah. There are certainly times when you tank to protect picks like the Lakers did for the past few years. But a playoff series win would likely have much greater value to the Bucks(making Giannia happy, enticing FAs, enticing a new coach) than keeping a mid-round first for this year only to give it up next year.

Unless some crazy shit happens, looks like we're heading towards a Jazz/OKC first round series. Only way it doesn't happen is if Memphis beat OKC.

An OKC win & Utah win gives Utah the 3 seed & OKC the 6 seed. If OKC win and Utah lose then we get to see them in the 4/5 match up with OKC having HCA. Only way it doesn't happen is if Memphis beat OKC

More 50 win teams in the east than west.

First time that has happened in over 20 years.

More reasons to leave the playoffs exactly how it is

@Mecca

If I hang on and win the pick em's , it will be the best comeback since the Cavs were down 3-1 to the Warriors.

No chance OKC loses.

First off, I agree. No reason to change the playoff structure.

But playing Devil's advocate:

There will be a 46 win team in the West that doesn't make the playoffs. 3 teams in the East with fewer wins, will make the playoffs. That is what folks who want a change will focus on.

No shit...

You were behind me and now you are at the top of the mountain.

Who y'all got in the play in game?

I think I'm going with the Timberpups.

Jokic, Murray are guys I like a lot and I've been a Barton fan for a minute.

But, I think KAT will have a big game and they really need to get that monkey off their back.

You're correct. But at this point it's nitpicking. In year's past, there have been team's in the East that made it in with a below .500 record. This year, every team will have a winning record. This year, the playoff format works just fine.
