So - we thought turning down $17M was dumb.

Nerlens Noel's season - and perhaps Mavericks tenure - ends with NBA suspension

A nightmarish season for Nerlens Noel ended Tuesday with news that the NBA has handed down a five-game suspension for violation of the league's anti-drug program.

Since there are five games left in the season, it means Noel's season and possibly his time with the Mavericks, is done.

The 6-11 center will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1. With the Mavericks probably targeting a big man in the draft and with Dwight Powell's improved play this season, it's questionable at best whether Noel would fit into the team's future plans.

Noel's season began with a protracted contract dispute that resulted in him changing agents, allegedly turning down a contract worth $17-million per season for four years and eventually signing a one-year qualifying offer for $4.188-million.

Just hope for his sake he fired his agent. Can't believe dude thought he was worth the max lol

Seriously.

Either take 70M and be set for life, regardless of how you play.

Or take 70M and be underpaid. BUT YOU STILL GOT 70 DAMN MILLION either way.

What a moron. He's the type of guy who would have blown it anyways. No sense of realistic value of money if you're turning down 70M, considering Noel has an injury history too.

Spurs can clinch a playoff berth with a win tonight and a Denver loss. Unfortunately, tonight, they're on the road.

Even more... he planned on parlaying this season into a max, long term deal. First the knee... then this.

He's a knothead. And for an organization that sold its soul for a decade to Roy Tarpley, I don't see any way in hell that he is offered a contract here. Hope Justin Anderson is working out for the Sixers. At least he wasn't an idiot. They got the better of this deal.

Went from a 70 mil offer to signing a 1 yr/4 mil LMFAOO

Will be lucky if he gets offered a multi year deal and even if he does, can't see a team paying him more than 7 or 8 mil so maybe he gets a 3 yr/23 mil deal and that's a stretch considering how bad he's been this year.

Feel like some team will give him the full MLE, which is close to 8M now. What he should do is go to the Warriors on another 1 year deal. He could potentially be a starting center for them. Build his stock up on a winning team. Or go the opposite route and sign for more on a weaker team, less years, and hope to put up big numbers. Feel like his best route though would be signing a cheap offer for a winning team that will give him a solid role.

...

I think that will be IT's dilemma this summer. Take a 4-year contract and be "underpaid" ... or sign a 1-year deal and risk not coming back next year or getting hurt again. (and not getting the longer term deal)

....honestly, I think Joanna gonna get her this weekend.

I think Rose will attempt more take downs. Think it goes the distance with Rose getting the decision.
