The play-calling was conservative all game long. They really only trust Bortles on short passes to RBs and TEs until their backs are against the wall.

I know, that's why it's on the coaching staff, not Bortles. He can only run the plays that are called. Everyone and their brother could see that the Patriots defense had adjusted and the Jags never changed their play calling.

That's 100% on the coaches. They should have seen that the Patriots were looking to attack the short stuff and and started making deeper throws. They wouldn't even necessarily need to complete them, just show enough of a threat to back them off a little.

Trusting him doesn't matter at that point. You do it because you have to and hope that he and/or the receivers will make a play.
