Sounds like Tillman will be good to go.
I'll be cautiously optimistic about him returning. Supposedly after his last start before the DL he said he felt good the next day and then the pain came back shortly thereafter.

Wild card or bust now. Actually get a decent start from Miley and the bats don't show up...

The fundamentals (i.e. run differential) suggest that the Orioles are really a 0.500 team anyway (expected record = 66-65). If they somehow manage to get the 2nd wild card, it will be only because other teams are even more mediocre...

Very true. Outside the three 7-game win streaks, they're 10 games under .500

Wouldn't the removal of longest winning streaks make almost any team look bad, though? Let's see what happens if we trim both tails of the distribution by taking away the 3 longest losing streaks as well: Their lengths are 5, 5, and 4 games, respectively.

That means removing 21-14 from the Orioles' overall record, which leaves 50-46 (0.521). If we extrapolate that to a full season, the result would be 84-78... in other words, roughly the same as 2013. But that's with regression to the mean already taken into account-- this season is still better than 2013 for now, in the sense that the Orioles were already several games out of the 2nd wildcard that year after 131 games.

sunk......again!

O's pitching staff probably leads the league in giving up homers. Most times the homerun ball means a loss.
That was definitely his worst pitch of the night. I'll give credit where credit's due, he pitched a solid game last night and did enough to keep the game within reach and the offense came through and won the game for us.

Looks like we're interested in Michael Bourne as well.

stupid, stupid, stupid!!!!!

Neither Stubbs nor Bourn can hit for average, so whats the use?.....We need some consistant hitting and at least 3 starters that can get through the first 3 innings...:trash:

I'm just taking a wild guess here about Bourn and guessing Jones' injury is worse than they're letting on and are tired of seeing Nolan in CF in his place since he looks very uncomfortable out there. Because it sure as hell not for Bourn's bat since like you said, the guy's not a good hitter. :noidea:
No idea about why they got Stubbs. One thing we have plenty of is outfielders for the rest of the season, especially with September call ups starting tomorrow and Rickard coming back soon (Kim, Reimold, Jones, Pearce, Trumbo, Rickard, Bourne and Stubbs [and that's not including any OF's that could get called up])

Now that the Orioles have fallen into a tie for the 2nd wildcard, they might as well call up the entire 40-man roster tomorrow and manage it like a Little League team since there's nothing no lose. For example, they could:
  • Pinch-hit and pinch-run at any possible opportunity;

  • Jettison the idea of using starting pitchers at all, but play every game via relay teams and have someone warming up in the bullpen throughout the game to minimize the number of runs given up (e.g. "if two batters reach base, you're gone").

"To make room for Bourn on the 40-man roster, Baltimore has transferred outfielder Joey Rickard to the 60-day disabled list."
