So...they...they traded a competent defender for one they don't actually plan on using at all? When they could've traded the competent one for something decent (big assumption I guess)?

I sense zero bitterness here. But really my expectations aren't too high. Gotta give some of these NCAA free agents, occasionally they get huge deals with zero NHL time.
None at all - I got it all out going to the Pond and booing him and brother Nick.

But seriously, he's probably the softest d in the NHL today. Unless the Pens plan to use him as one of Sid's lamp posts - that may work out.

^ that's a pretty good example of what you'll get out of Justin Schultz

Outside of Jared Cowen I think Schultz may have been the worst defenseman in the NHL this year. I certainly haven't seen any worse.

So he didnt say noto the hawks ... He just waffled and bowman moved on quickly

The Chicago trade discussions got far enough Hamhuis was presented with a chance to waive. What followed was a long delay, which could be interpreted as waffling, and the Hawks moved on.

The Canucks already missed a chance to pry a top prospect from the Chicago Blackhawks. The Hawks were seriously into Hamhuis but he apparently wasn’t willing to say “right back atch-ya.”
