Ummm, wrong again- I've posted the list for 2014 in the post you just quoted.

an accurate statement would be: JR HASN'T been in the top 3 of made 3's in a season as far back as 2007.

dammit, yer KILLIN' his propaganda...

looks like the Cavs are getting firmly entrenched on the Smith negotations. They just signed Tony Douglass---- McRae and Dunleavy are getting run at the 2 in practice- and the Cavs have spoken to and brought in RAy Allen and jimmer fredette for meetings.....

hmmmmm......

since Jr Smith was dealt to the Cavs on January 5th of 2015- no one has made more 3's than him in NBA games besides Steph Curry. That is the stat they are quoting. so if you add up all the 3's Jr has madei n NBA games between Jan. 5th of 2015 WHEN HE JOINED THE CAVS- until today- no one has made more 3's than him besides Steph.

Still not correct. Example: Klay Thompson

Klay
'14-'15 (Since Jan 5): 190 (57 more in postseason)
'15-'16: 276 (98 more in postseason)
Total: 621

JR
'14-'15 (Since Jan 5): 131 (51 more in postseason)
'15-'16: 204 (65 more in postseason)
Total: 451

JR doesn't beat Klay in any portion of that time period, and the total isn't even close. Don't believe every stat regurgitated at you by the homer press.

LeBron James warns Cavs to sign J.R. Smith

mith is looking at his production the past two seasons -- 367 3-pointers, second-most in the NBA behind Stephen Curry; 12.5 points per game in 1½ seasons with the Cavs and 40-percent shooting from 3-point range. He's become an above-average defender and is always credited with playing hard, something not all NBA players can say.

hmmmm.surprised if that is indeed true that it would be wrong in a major newspaper.

No doubt in my mind they get him signed, but I will say that Gilbert can now show some resistance.
James can't leave for 2 seasons, and by then, I doubt it would break Gilbert's heart if James chooses to leave vs having to give him a long term max when hes 32-33 years old.

it just comes down to hte fact that cap space is a limited resource and gilbert is not gonna pay more then he absolutely needs to.

Honestly, it didn't even need to be broken down to that degree. There is a total given for every player- by season. It doesn't matter what date you count from- that total isn't somehow going to be different because the simple addition rule is no matter what angle you count from- the result is always the same.

.....Even if you're adding sideways. :dhd:

@shopson67

you were definitely right- however- there is still some minor discrepancies between our individual calculations. I have no clue where Joe Vardon got 367 from as that is not a viable number whether or not you count postseason 3s....

for klay you had 190 post Jan 5th for the 14/15 reg season and i had 149

Some interesting takes on the Jr Smith situation from ESPN:

onus: What is your take on the J.R. Smith situation?
Windhorst: I see both sides. Smith has had two strong seasons for the Cavs and hasn't gotten into any trouble for a year and a half. He believes he has earned a deal for multiple years -- and at the market rate of between $12-15 million a year.

The Cavs, whatever their offer is, see no reason to raise it because there are no other bidders. But the truth is they both need each other. J.R. will ultimately get the best deal of his career, and the Cavs will find a middle ground where they get comfortable with the risk.

Elhassan: The Cavs are playing this correctly. Smith has salary demands that cannot be met by almost any other team in the league, and the ones that can pay him have shown no interest. He is at a stage where he can either accept Cleveland's offer or stay home and not get paid. I imagine a compromise will be made by signing another short-term deal with his hoping the market for him will resurrect next summer.

Engelmann: At this point I don't think Smith has any option left but to sign with the Cavs for whatever they offer, unless he wants to go play in China, as all other formerly interested teams have spent their money. Next offseason, Smith should consider talking to more than one team.

Doolittle: There has to be a middle ground here. Smith has no leverage -- no one is going to pay him anything near $15 million. The Cavs need him more than any other team, if only to keep James happy. They found a championship formula, and you don't tamper with that, especially less than a month before the season starts. They can't find a comparable player. But Smith needs to be reasonable, as well.

Pelton: I'm not going to worry about it until opening night. Smith can slot right into the starting 5, and I can't imagine a resolution that has him leaving Cleveland.

Meh, Smith has quieted down the past few years but he still has a stigma about him, doubt he gets the money he's asking for.

Now you are singing a totally different tune.
Cavs have no cap space whether he signs for 12 or 15M, right?
Just like Tristan last summer.

If Gilbert doesn't care about luxury tax, this would be a done.
I'm not saying Gilbert is wrong. I think he is being smart.
James lost his leverage for the time being and by the time he regains it, as I've stated before, my opinion is Gilbert won't care if he leaves.
