It was an odd draft front to back.
I agree. It was frustrating to see all of the players that we liked get passed up for relatively unknowns, but that is the risk we take when investing ourselves into the mock game. We only really know about a quarter of the knowledge that GM's & coaches know about. As Colbert recently said something about how the media knows very little about what really goes on in the draft/scouting process, its like they are looking through a heavily mirrored & heavily tinted window. Thought that was a perfect metaphor for this situation lol.

Steelers added 10 UDFA from PFT:
Hearing & reading a lot of buzz over the VA kid Severin. Lacks the top end speed but has hands of gold & can be one of the best blocking WR's in this year's class.

Interesting quotes. Confirms what we already suspected. Ayers will be the next return specialist project. I do think Eli Rogers will compete for the position as well. He fielded punts all of last offseason during camps prior to his injury.

Damn... Panthers are beefing up their secondary depth. They got Boykin too.

Curious to see how they use him. Already said it before, but I think he's going to fill the Garvin void. ST ace and rotational ILB.

No doubt. They will have some great competition in camp this year. I think Adams is going to get the boot, unless Hawkins can play inside. That would pull Hubbard into the competition.

I'll have to look into him. I've never even heard the name before today.

Poorly edited video, but good highlights. @1:20ish he catches a TD on Jalen Ramsey!

Kid is tough as nails!

nice one handed catch .. he didnt give up I like that .. possible play maker
His toughness & ability to catch in traffic reminds me of Hines Ward. It's a crowded position on the team, but hopefully he can stick around somehow. Should have a decent shot with Bryant serving his suspension.

Now that the draft/UDFA period is over we can look at the depth of each position

Early QB depth preview:

1. Roethlisberger
2. Unsigned?
3. Landry Jones
4. Dustin Vaughan

Tryouts:
Jacob Huesman, Chattanooga

Notes:
Lot of talk about Gradkowski making another return for the QB2 spot. Don't know much of anything about Vaughan & Huesman.

Early RB depth preview:

1. Bell
2. D-Will
3. F. Toussaint
4. Rajion Neal
5. Daryl Richardson
6. Abou Toure
7. Christian Powell, UDFA Colorado

Notes:
*Positions 3-7 aren't set in stone. Plenty of competition for the spot.
*Richardson & Toussaint are the only backups with any real NFL experience. Neal & Toure only have preseason experience.
*Need to do some research on Powell. Haven't heard much of anything yet.

Early WR depth preview:

1. AB
2. Wheaton
3. DHB
4. Coates
5. Demarcus Ayers, 6th Rd selection, Houston.
6. Eli Rogers
7. Shakim Phillips
8. Levi Norwood
9. Tobias Palmer
10. Issac Blakeney
11. Canaan Severin, UDFA Virginia

Notes:
*Obviously didn't put Bryant in because his spot won't be reflected in the '16 season.
*Plenty of competition for WR5 spot, and arguably WR4. I think Coates will split time with DHB for WR3 (Bryant's spot) duties. Doubt Tomlin & Haley will put Wheaton on the outside like a lot of people are expecting with Bryant being suspended. Wheaton is better suited for the slot.
*Rogers is a hard worker and probably an early favorite to make the team. He will likely battle Ayers for return & slot duties.
*Phillips flashed a lot of potential last preseason so he will be a name to watch.
*Don't know anything about Norwood, Palmer & Blakeney.
*As stated previously (see posts #291 & #293), this kid has great potential.

Early TE depth preview:

1. Green, FA
2. Spaeth
3. James
4. Xavier Grimble
5. David “D.J.” Reeves, UDFA Duke
6. Jay Rome, UDFA Georgia

Notes:
*Really like the Green acquisition. Not sure if he's a true TE, but more of a hybrid WR type. Regardless, he should soften the blow of losing Bryant for the season. Should be a fun player to watch this season.
*Not sure that I see much competition for roster spots this season. James & Spaeth are almost guaranteed locks. But with W-Johnson departing it could open up a TE4 roster spot. Regardless, PS spots will be important for this position with Spaeth's future in question.
*This position always seems to get ravaged by injuries during camp. So the more bodies the better lol.
