The scheme fit for Apple concerns me as well I'm just of the opinion that he could do it if asked. I'll have to look at WJ3 more. Not an Alexander fan at all. We spent too much time without playmakers on that side of the ball and he just doesn't flip the field.
I agree. Apple's the more athletic of the 2, so you would think he would be able to fit any scheme. But considering his inexperience, that makes me think he won't contribute much in year 1. But in 2-3 years, Apple could certainly be the better player.

Alexander is probably the smartest CB in the draft, but I don't think he belongs in the 1st round. Never was extremely high on him. Maybe at first lol.

stating the obvious.

sort of like last offseason when they nabbed Cockrell & Boykin.

The only situation I wouldn't know what to expect is if Billings & WJ3/Apple are available at 25. Not a likely scenario, but just for conversation's sake.

Billings is an instant starter, whereas both CB's would be viewed as competition. I'm sure Tomlin would even call Billings competition, but that's just a coach motivating his players. Even a blind kid would know the difference. That would make you think Billings without question, right? Not sure when you think about the 30% of snaps for NT/DT. Unless they envisioned a change to their schemes? Hard to say. But I guarantee Butler is going to be all over that draft room Thursday like a child at a candy store.

I've played around with various mocks, and the only 2 CBs that could be in the BPA conversation are the two guys that I think will be gone...good chance...Billings will be as well.

Sry...I'm just bracing...hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst...is that the saying? If the board is going haywire, somebody has to slip...I just don't see them taking C4 off the board at 25.

When you start running the positions in the 1st round that should go before 25...3 QBs, 1 RB, 3 OTs, etc...it's tough to see CB3 up there...we shall see.

Reasons why I miss Al Davis.

We have the exact opposite views on these 2 lol. Many people are predicting Eli Apple, but I'm not convinced. He's certainly a good player & boasts great athleticism (as evidence of his great combine), but he's not as polished as WJ3. Apple chose to come out early and I think he's a little overrated. He'll be good at the next level, but he will need time to groom. Not to mention WJ3 is the better zone scheme fit. Apple does not belong in a zone scheme, or at least he doesn't come from the same system. Doesn't mean he can't learn it, just would take time. If WJ3 isn't available then I would suspect they wouldn't have a problem taking Apple. I'd certainly take him over Alexander, but it's close.

Not trying to make Apple out to be a bad player by any means. But choosing a CB that needs around 2 years of development, in a bad-fit system that hasn’t developed a DB in a decade or so.... AND in a draft filled with defensive talent just seems like one of the worst ideas to me. But like I said, I could understand them taking him if all the guys they wanted weren't there. He's got enough upside to make him a worthy BPA candidate at 25 overall.
I've watched a ton of video and did a lot of reading. I'm with you now man. WJ3 would be a fantastic fit.

I'm a little slow to come around sometimes haha.

I won't and haven't wavered from this view: Apple has the athleticism, but he's a 3rd round talent at best. He's soft, reacts slowly and takes bad angles.

There are, and will be plenty of good DB and DL options for the Steelers tonight.

WJ3 and Karl Joseph are the two most likely (and best) choices.

UGH. EVERYONE is mocking Apple to the Steelers today.

Silver lining: Maybe someone moves up to try to take him away from us instead of the two guys I'd rather see them draft.

I hope the Steelers are smart enough to realize he's a terrible scheme fit, and just not a good enough talent in general.

The Steelers have looked a lot of lower level CBs...that tells me they are not going to go CB @ 25 unless the guy they want is there...who that guy is...that's the 64,000 question.

I've said from the outset...the only CBs that can really be in the BPA conversation @ 25 would be Apple and WJ3...maybe Alexander.

I wouldn't rule out a trade back, but Joesph at 25 to me is reaching a little.

Yeah just saw Mayock mock Apple to us with WJ3 still on the board.

I have a sneaking feeling that the pick is either Joseph or Bell at safety.
