Hold on for a bit guys. I recall some where popping wood over Johnny Stanton a few years ago. Let the kid come and provide some truth. Don't get me wrong, I like the kid but a lot can happen between now and a year or two.

Guilty. I wasn't on the board then, but I was very high on Stanton. He is playing well at the college he transferred to. But then, the games are mostly filled with players that will never go to D-2, let alone D-1.

Saddleback College is 8-2, on an eight game winning streak. Attendance is around 800 per game. Yes, EIGHT HUNDRED.

He is 199 for 318 with 18 TDs, 10 INTs, 62.6% completion rate.

Leading rusher on the team with 128 carries, 590 yards, 4.6 average, 12 TDs.

What I love about Patrick O'Brien is that he has a very good throwing motion. Throws off his front foot, no shot putt passes.

That is the first thing I noticed as well.

When rolling left he squares his shoulders up with the line of scrimmage before he throws. It improves accuracy greatly. He's got the physical tools, and he's had good training when it comes to form.

However, he will be playing at a different level in college where there are a lot more variables involved. Not only the smartness required to play the position, but decent route running receivers, and defensive-lineman/linebackers that want to kill him.

Looking forward to see what he can do, but I remember the excitement for Harrison Beck, Johnny Stanton, and others.

Even TA's H/S film looked good. He led all of his receivers on long balls and could throw a 60 yd rope like it was nothing. Now it seems the majority of them are jump balls.
Maybe having him throw footballs into stationary baskets during practice has something to do with it?

I put a tire swing in my back yard for my boy to practice throwing footballs at. It's the best thing I can come up with for a moving object when I get tired of running around or he's practicing by himself.

Oh wait......he's a kicker?

LOL. I still want him, but the 5-star thing threw me off

5 star kicker, didn't know they existed. must be 100% in his career and knocks down 50 + yarders with ease.

When was last time a 5 star came to Nebraska?

Remember how turrible Congdon was?

Of course he wasn't a 5-star, but he was the #1 kicker in the nation according to Rivals.

I'm guessing to be a 5-star you're pretty much going to have an NFL career.

By 5-star they don't mean literally a 5-star, no recruiting service gives specialists that many stars. The highest rating you can get as a kicker is probably a mid 3-star.

By 5-star they mean one of the top 3 specialists at that position. And since he's a top 3 punter and kicker that makes him #1. Would still be a good get.

It's a 5 star Kohl's Kicking & Punting Academy rating...hence the :dhd:

Still would be a good get, though.

Derrion Grim. Calling it now: Star.

The tape doesn't lie.

I know a true star when I see it. He's lazy with his technique on screens but coach dub will fix that. Dude is as gifted as it gets. He will contribute immediately if his head is straight.
