Been a slow day so I thought up two blockbuster trades I think could benefit all parties:

Starting off with a blockbuster:

Lakers Receive: Paul George
Indiana receives: Ricky Rubio, Brandon Ingram, Julius Randle, Jose Calderon
New York receives: Jeff Teague, Nikola Pekovic, Aaron Brooks
Minnesota receives: Derrick Rose.

Lakers receive Paul George. Enough said. They still keep Russell and don't have to trade any picks here.
Indiana receives a starting pg in Rubio, locked up for 2 additional years at reasonable salary. Ingram and Randle to pair with a young Myles Turner to grow and develop. Calderon is expiring deal.
Knicks receive Teague who would be a massive upgrade from Rose and help their prospects of making the playoffs. Pek is to match salaries and at worst is an expiring deal to dangle next year. Brooks expiring as well, but serviceable backup.
Minnesota receives Rose, who they covet.

Trade 2:
Boston receives: Jimmy Butler, Robin Lopez, Chicago 1st Rd Pick
Chicago receives: Amir Johnson, Andrew Bogut, Jae Crowder, Boston Pick (Brooklyn)
Dallas receives: Tyler Zeller, First 2 Boston 2nd Round picks (2017)

Boston gets Butler, but also receives Lopez. The sticking point here will be the value of the potential #1 overall pick. To offset that a bit, Chicago would send back their 1st round pick which would be in the teens most likely. They also get to keep Brown and Smart.

Chicago receives 23M in expiring contracts. Also receives Jae Crowder who will be their starting SF and locked up at a really reasonable rate. Also receive the potential #1 overall pick in the draft. Rondo and Wade are expirings after next season, so they could essentially start over and build a team around the #1 overall pick. Could also trade Wade the following season.

Dallas receives Zeller, who's on the hook for an additional year at 8M. They receive 2 second round picks to help facilitate this.

In regards to the first scenario I don't think the Lakers want to give up their young core- and probably aren't parting with Ingram before they see what he can become in the next few years.

I can kind of understand why they wouldn't want to part with him for Cousins, but trading him for George, would be a no-brainer imo. They play the same position and while upside is there for Ingram, his ceiling is what? If he reached Paul George level that would be a massive win. So why not go the guaranteed route and get the actual PG early. It would also be more enticing for George to stay in LA considering it's his hometown and not have to try and lure him away from Indiana who could offer him nearly 40% more money than LA could as a free agent.

Well because for starters PG has had a couple of injuries- and one major injury. So while I agree he's an established player & a really good player he probably will never be the same player he was a couple of seasons ago. Also, the Lakers culture is to develop their guys & I think Ingram is a perfect fit in that respect. Even more-so now that Magic is running things.

If it was Patrick Beverly straight up- id still prob rather have Shumpert.

exactly what I just said in the other thread. I feel like Shump gives you everything Beverly does, just with more size and versatility

the funny thng is last year i would ahve said do the deal because shumpert really wasnt that great last year.

he is playing really good ball this year. I dont want to be a prisoner of the moment becuase i really like beverly and think this is closer to the "real" shumpert- but i dunno- we shall see

having a defensive first pg like beverly where you could move kyrie and lebron off the ball at times would be kind of interesting.

Gordon

what if they offered Ariza, McDaniels and a 2nd rounder for Shump and Mcrae?

You should snap accept this and yell "no take backs" while running away.

This would be a terrible, terrible, so god awful terrible trade for the Rockets.

ehh...id rather have shumpert than ariza...younger, signed for an extra year....they would need more than just ariza is kind of what my point was with that offer....

i dunno, itll be interesting. To be honest- i dont really anticipate the Cavs making a trade- Korver - who is freaking shooting 60% from 3 this month, lol...seems to be their big deal- and theny will just look at the buyout market.

they did have Sanders in for a workout today too apparently. Apparently he has offers from "contenders" already- but is waiting for the Cavs decision as that is his top team.

If you compare Shumpert and Ariza, there's literally nothing to suggest Shumpert is a superior player. You make it seem like having Shumpert on your team for an additional season at 10M per is a good thing. Ariza is locked in for 7M again next year, which makes his age irrelevant because you don't have to re-sign him if he regresses.

I mean if you just prefer Shumpert over Ariza, that's fine. But not sure why you would think the Rockets would have to give you a superior player, at a lesser contract in both $ and duration and still have to give you more to make you take the deal.

Shumpert is younger(26 vs. 31), under contract for an extra year, and shooting over 40% from 3- and at this point in their careers- i bleieve is also the better defender.

shumpert at an additional year for 10M IS A good thing. Id MUCH rather have Shumpert locked into 10M a year in his age 27 and 28 years - then Ariza locked into 1 year at 32 years old for 7M- its not even close.

the Cavs could trade Shumpert 5 minutes from now to the Twolves and get a better package than a 31 year old shooting 35% from 3.

Shumpert can and has guarded positions from the 1 to the 3....at this point trevor ariza aint chasing around pgs.

shumpert has been the primary defender on point guards quite a bit.

N.O. should go after John Calipari this summer. After that then they need to get John Wall, Devin Booker, Michael Kid-Gilcrest & Enis Kanter.

I get where you're coming from, I just don't agree.

I agree with the premise Shumpert is probably a better defender at this point, and his 3 point shooting has been stellar this year.

That being said Ariza's been an instrumental cog in the Houston offense and defense. Ariza is still no slouch defensively and his 3 point shooting is consistent with his career average (career wise, Ariza is a better 3 point shooter than Shumpert).

Additionally, guarding 1's is not a problem for the Rockets, since they're holding on to Beverly. It's the wings 2's and 3's that they're more conscious of guarding. Also with Ariza being 6'8", he has played small ball 4 some this year. Shumpert definitely cannot do that.

From the Rockets point of view, Ariza is way more valuable than Shumpert. If you're asking say the Timberwolves on who they prefer, they might have a different answer. But for the Rockets, Ariza is still clearly the superior player.

Might as well get KAT and Eric Bledsoe while you're at it.

I wouldn't mind seeing George or Bulter in a Celtics uniform before the deadline.

So the Lakers traded Lou Williams. He was probably their best player. Never thought I'd see the day when the Lakers go into tank-mode.
